A Clark county case over the county treasurer election remained undecided after a recount showed Kile MacWherter elected as Republican treasurer. The trial judge left for a month’s vacation and never rendered a decision, leaving locals puzzled about the judge’s absence and the case status.
The 15th annual Clark County 4-H beef barbecue in Martinsville served 1709 meals, the largest since 1958, with last year at 1601 and 1775 in Casey. Net profit around 1000 dollars funds 4-H programs and scholarships. steers donated by Martinsville State Bank Formalite and Clark Service Company helped keep price at 1 dollar per plate.

David L Ferris of Connersville Indiana returned from a two month Europe tour as the head of a fourteen teacher group from thirteen states. The crew visited eleven countries by jet steamers and train. Ferris teaches in Kankakee Illinois.

Mr and Mrs Jack Hanley and Laurie Ann return from a month in California where they attended the wedding of Mrs Hanley’s niece Cherie Lafayette to Nelson McAfee. They visited many relatives including Commander and Mrs Arnold Fransen, Fransen a former Navy buddy of Mr Hanley.
Two new oil wells with daily outputs of 40 and 25 barrels were brought in Thursday in a new pool two miles south of Martinsville on the George Barr and William Newman farms. A dozen drilling rigs are at work.

Thirty years ago in 1933 Mr and Mrs Frederick Herscher of Pontiac spent Sunday with her parents Mr and Mrs Ray Burkybile and family Miss Martha Burkybile stayed to attend high school there Mrs Florence Lovett of Glendale Ohio visited her daughter in Grand Rapids at the home of Mr and Mrs W W Hogue Dale Jones returned from a two week visit in Milwaukee with relatives and in Chicago with Dr and Mrs P P Haslitt and family
Mrs. Macklin displayed thirty two hand sewn quilts on clothes lines behind her Marshall home in varied patterns. Jack Handley and his wife arrived from Alameda California to visit his parents south of Marshall. A marriage license was issued for James Jackson and Wilma Sheets from West Union.

Rev Harold Daniels district superintendent of the Illinois district of the Church of the Nazarene will headline a weekend revival at the local Church of the Nazarene with services Friday and Saturday at 7 30 p m and Sunday at 10 30 a m He is noted as a top Nazarene evangelist and former pastor of large churches including First Church Ashland Kentucky and First Church Phoenix Arizona The Walker Spotts Nettie Dawson and Fenton Mack families returned from visits in Michigan and Mrs Byford McDaniel and children joined them in Gross Point Park Michigan.
Legion National Convention held in St Louis honors winners from the prior year in New York City. Marriage licenses issued include James E Crumlin 26 West Union and Mary Graham 31 West Union. Also listed are Charles E Bridgewater 25 Clinton Indiana and Emma Caroline Meehling 21.
Miss Mary Alice Hollingsworth daughter of Mr and Mrs Don Hollingsworth and Ted Leon Forsythe son of Mr and Mrs Ora Forsythe were wed August 10 at Nazarene parsonage Chrisman with Rev Garnett Mitchell officiating. Bride wore blue taffeta and carried a Bible. bridesmaid wore pale blue nylon. Reception at bride’s home. The couple resides in Marshall.
The Marshall school system begins official operation on Friday August 30 with a full day on Tuesday September 30. Enrollment will not exceed capacity on all routes with bus transport from North to South campuses. The board of education meets September 12 to discuss finances after veto of House Bill 1097 and outlines for 1965 remain under review.
Mr and Mrs Bob Staub of Peru Indiana welcomed Patrick Bryan born August 30 at St Elizabeth Hospital Danville Illinois weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces. He is a great grandson of Mr and Mrs Joe Staub and Merrill Bruner. His birth follows the arrival of Richard Warren on August 31 at Union Hospital Terre Haute. Brother Steve greets the new arrival. Miss Elsie Jane Marrs remains a patient at Union Hospital Terre Haute.
