Two Men Die as Crash Kills Brother Pair Near Marshall
A collision between a car and a semi-trailer on Route 1 40 north of Marshall at 9 PM Monday left two brothers John Lee Newbold 62 and Paul Newbold 50 dead. Four relatives were injured including Madge Newbold 45 and Margaret Newbold 44 and their children Judy 16 and Joe 14. The crash followed a power outage and a fallen tree limb. Anthony DeGeorge of West Richfield Ohio drove the truck for Consolidated Freightways and escaped uninjured. The injured were taken to Union Hospital Terre Haute and to Paris Hospital. A coroner's jury was impaneled with six men and inquests not yet scheduled. The deceased were moved to local funeral homes for services.

Randy Strohm and Larry Strohm with David Rardin found a small glass jar containing powder at the Strohm home around 1:00 pm Wednesday. A handmade fuse extended from the top, the jar wrapped in black tape. An explosion burnt the Rardin boy’s face. he received treatment at home.

Harry W. Drake received the National Locker and Freezer Provisioning Institute’s distinguished service award at the annual Minneapolis convention held at the Leamington Hotel. Drake, a leader in industrial refrigeration, writes a Q and A column for Freezer Provisioning Magazine and has built many locker plants within a 200 mile radius.
