Allen Lockhart born February 11 1898 in Marshall died October 26 from influenza in Herrin Illinois. His funeral was held at his parents home with siblings and relatives present. Mrs Ernest Adams died of pneumonia after grip and was buried in the city cemetery. Mary Alice Huffington born August 1 1887 in Anderson Township married Ernest Adams on November 5 1907 and had two sons. She was a teacher and Congregational church member.
From Corcoran California El Nay reports a 10000 acre lake bed being reclaimed. Water is pumped off then seeded to wheat, promising rich wheat land. He praises California’s productivity climate and good roads while noting Tulare Lake Dredge and Land Reclamation Co has operated there for two years.
The Illinois State Examining Board, acting under an order from the Boards of Health, has postponed the November teachers examination to December 5 and 6 1918. The move reflects health directives and affects teachers planning to take the test.
Hon J Graham received notice of Rev Russell E Stark’s death from pneumonia at his parents home in Long Beach California. Stark, 29, born in Marshall, son of Joseph Stark, married with one child, was a M E church minister who had recenta ly moved from Venice to a San Diego church, and had hoped to preach his first sermon there.
Mrs J E Noonan died about four oclock this morning in St Anthony's Hospital Terre Haute of influenza and complications Funeral arrangements have not been announced Genevieve Adkins a native of Bradford Pa lived there until marriage to Mr Noonan about five years ago since which time their home has been in Marshall They have a daughter Mary Katherine one sister and one brother live in the east Mr Noonan has been seriously ill with influenza but is improving
Mrs. Robert Taylor died at her east Marshall home last Friday night from heart trouble worsened by grip. Funeral services were Sunday at her home led by Rev. P. R. Powers. Anna Flora Taubeneck, born August 19, 1889, married Robert H. Taylor in 1909 and had three children Marie Eugene and William. She was a longtime Christian church member.
Mrs William Smith died at her home north of the city yesterday from influenza and complications. Funeral services are set for tomorrow at Fairbanks, Ind. She was 37 and survived by her husband and one child.
Donald English died at Camp Meade Maryland in October 1919 and was buried October 24. He was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs Ed M English whose home is two miles north of Tolyn. He spent his childhood and youth in the community and was well known in the school.
Owen McGee of Wabash township who joined the army as a private last spring has been commissioned a second Lieutenant of infantry. He is stationed at Camp Dix New Jersey. Leslie B. Maxwell formerly of Marshall now at Camp Taylor has been promoted to first lieutenant and recommended for the School of Fire at Bordeaux France.
