A Farm Bureau essay argues Americans must exercise voting rights in the 1956 elections. It stresses citizen duties, consider both sides, and urges eligible adults to persuade others to vote, warning that apathy could undermine democracy.
Eugene Higginbotham 39, son of Mr and Mrs Harry Higginbotham of Marshall, resides on the Harry Craig farm in Melrose township near Davison-Craig Lake. He lost his left hand in a corn picker about 7 30 Thursday morning and was rushed to Paris Hospital in an ambulance from West Union for treatment.
The United States Army Recruiting Bus will be on display at Court House Square in Paris Illinois on November 3. Sgt. McKern, the local U S Army recruiter at Edgar County Court House, will accompany the bus, a rolling exhibit of modern equipment and armament with scale models of guided missiles rocket launchers troop carriers and tanks and various weapons on display.
Miss Kay Newlin, daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Newlin of Marshall, has been named art editor for the 1956 1957 Western College for Women yearbook Multifaria Oxford Ohio. The yearbook is planned and published by the junior class with a staff of sophomores and juniors.
Marriage licenses issued for Bart Long and Carol Smith in Martinsville and Asel Shipman and Nina Kile in Burkburnett and Marshall. S/Sgt. Paul Wallace and family left Tuesday returning to Little Rock after a month with his mother Mrs. Charles Ferris. Wallace had been in school at Rantoul for special training.
Clark County Republicans plan the biggest campaign rally at the courthouse in Marshall on Saturday night November 3. Edward G. Pree, attorney and former administrative assistant to Governor Stratton, will speak at 7:30 p.m. District and county candidates attend. Casey orchestra 6 to 7 p.m. refreshments and favors for children.
Rev. Fred Abel of Indianapolis will speak at Armstrong Methodist Church next Sunday October 28 at 10 30 AM on Prophesy and Israel Today. The event invites families and friends of the community to attend.
Thirteen local students are among 3202 enrolled for fall at Indiana State Teachers College. The $202 enrollment figure is a school record, up 12 percent from last year’s 2851. Samuel Norton 81 died at home in Marshall after 8:00 am on Thursday. Survived by sister Sophronia Irwin and brother Jesse Norton. funeral arrangements pending at Marrs Funeral Home. Mrs H S Reese died Tuesday at Lakeview Hospital in Danville. funeral held Thursday at 2 p.m. at E A B church in Oakwood.

Western High School in McComb with 190 students has a strong football record under coach Harry Sockler since 1951. The team has won four straight Lamoine Valley Conference titles and is set for at least a tie for fifth. In five years, Western went 31 4 2. Also noted is the funeral attendance for Charles Mattis in Danville with several Marshall and West Union neighbors missing.
Ten years ago in 1946 Brnshaw Fowler, 46, of Quaker Lane vicinity and an employee of Central Illinois Public Service Company, Hutsonville, drowned when a boat carrying four coworkers capsized on the Wabash River near Hutsonville at about 7 30 Friday morning.
The first annual Clark County Soil Conservation District tour is planned for Wednesday October 31. Participants will see waterways structures ponds land smoothing terraces diversions and improved pasture at multiple farms around Martinsville Casey and surrounding areas. The schedule lists stops from 9:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. with details of each farm’s conservation practices.

Judge Cotton of Paris opened the circuit court in Marshall Thursday morn ing and granted Beverly Turner a divorce from Leroy Turner. The court awarded custody of two minor children to Mrs. Turner and ordered Leroy Turner to pay $150 monthly for support plus attorney fees and costs. Mrs. Wm Guentter and children of Cincinnati are visiting the Pulver home. Mr. Guentter will join them this weekend.
A full day program for Clarksville Baptist Church homecoming next Sunday October 28 includes morning and afternoon services. Readings prayers sermons specials choir and organ numbers feature Nina Hogue Rev Leo C Simmons Rev W A Fuson Glen Clapp Paul Behner Linda Behner and others with a noonday meal and church history segment.
About 55 Farm Bureau families met at the Masonic Temple in Marshall to organize the FBI unit of Clark County Farm Bureau Information. Monthly meetings on the second Thursday were set and members pledged to inform neighbors that Farm Bureau night is the designated gathering time.
Halloween program on Wednesday October 31 features a 700 p.m. parade of masqueraders and a 730 p.m. prize ceremony at the bandstand. Merchants of Marshall donate money prizes for best characters including Miss Columbia Witch Bride and Groom Ghost and others with multiple prize tiers.
M Sgt Clyde McKern announced a special enlistment program for the Women’s Army Corps in Illinois and Missouri. The Petticoat Brigade refers to a group of enlisted women to be introduced on a TV program in St Louis on November 15 with a color guard drum and bugle corps and escorted to Fort McClelland Alabama for training.
Marshall resident Lloyd Pulver was taken to Union Hospital in Terre Haute last Saturday and is slated for a major operation today.
