Washington resembles other communities in its relish for political gossip and social chatter. The capital’s whispering gallery atmosphere grows from proximity to power, with Cabinet talk and speculation about upcoming elections fueling social scenes and informal conclusions.
At noon Sunday about .35 cars filled To Rest Park on Michigan Avenue where diners enjoyed their meals. The group included eight cars from Casey, four from Paris and two from Danville forming a local parade.
Jean McCormick and Burns Dixon were injured when the Nash Studebaker collided with a side road car near Vevay Park. The crash caused a fire. Dixon suffered facial and hand burns, McCormick had scratches but played in the Terre Haute Trianon orchestra that night. John Collins and Horace Nash were hurt lightly. the Nash car was wrecked.
Fifteen agriculture students and J T Connelly selected about 75 bushels of seed corn from Charles Strohm’s 50 acre east of West Union. They chose ears from healthy green stalks with full husks to ensure germinating power. The corn will be stored at the high school and tested for root rot and germination next spring. Students listed include Roy Crumlin Foster Blizzard Carl Lucan Lawrence Lewis Leon Davidson Gordon Coryell Oscar Kirchner Harvey Swinford James O Roarke Owen Hall Arthur Beuhler Eugene Buckner Paul Maurer Howard Junker and Sylvester Shade.
Republicans of the county committee and candidates gathered at the Marshall House on Monday for a luncheon. Three precinct committeemen were absent. After plural talks, plans were laid for the campaign with confidence in victory but fear some may become overconfident based on past experience.
Marshall will install Western Union clocks in businesses and schools with free repairs and replacements. The company sources official time from naval observatories and distributes it via telegraph wires, ensuring public punctuality. A partial list includes American Restaurant, Dulaney National Bank, Marshall High School, National Dixie Hotel, Pythian Theatre, and more.
A women’s democratic central committee meeting convened in the Pythian theatre on Wednesday afternoon with countywide participation. County chairman Mrs. Norman Bennett led the event to push organization work and several prominent women speakers shared the program.
Ernest Brock and Elmer Anderson were arrested for hunting without a license. They pleaded guilty and received fines of 25 dollars each plus court costs totaling 85 dollars.

Reports of the World Series will be received over Western Union Telegraph at the corner pool room operated by Percy Cox. The service will start Saturday and will be available for each game including Sunday contests.
The city pedestal lights hearing, originally set for September, was postponed to October 20 in county court. The case concerns the lighting project for the city pedestal and related municipal decisions.
Ralph Beasley received a forty day sentence at the Vandalia penal farm after pleading guilty to contributing to delinquency.
Ike Davis was arrested on a charge of passing a pad check on Saturday. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four months on the penal farm at Vandalia.
Miss Elizabeth O'Rourke and Reno Wright were united in marriage Saturday morning at the Catholic church. The bride is the daughter of Patrick and Mrs O'Rourke who live north of Marshall. The groom is from Milwaukee. They will reside in Milwaukee after the ceremony.

Marshall football crushed Newton 41 to 6 Saturday on its field. Claypool scored early, Kannamacher kicked two goals, and multiple substitutions produced three more touchdowns in a dominant victory.
The Marshall Chamber of Commerce held a Monday evening meeting at the Marshall Restaurant where lunch was served. Attendees discussed purchasing red and white pennants to place on flag poles used by Marshall merchants on days of Marshall High athletic events.
Rev J E Evans of the Methodist church travels to Charleston to help prepare conference minutes for the printer. Rev E G Sandmeyer, new Mattoon district superintendent, serves as conference secretary with Rev C W Hammond assisting. Re union of Marshall ministers noted as Rev C E Pettit and Dr H C Gibbs visit.
R. F Henderson president and Miss Bertha Beltz secretary report an all day district Sunday school convention to be held at the Denison Methodist church Sunday.
Russell W. Taylor age 23 and Eleanor A. Campbell age 20, both of Dennison, were issued a marriage license in Paris on Saturday.
Michael Maloney aged 60 died at 3 20 Sunday morning at St Anthony s hospital Terre Haute He was buried in St Mary s cemetery Marshall funeral services were at St Joseph s church Terre Haute He is survived by widow Laura a son Corbett five daughters Flossie Dickerson Irene Bayless Marie Graham Bertine Feiss and Elda a sister Mrs Albert Willfond a brother John and five grandchildren
Mrs Mae A Dutton of north Marshall was seriously injured when her Ford collided with a Hudson driven by Vern and Kelsie Smith south of Marshall. John Ashworth and his granddaughter were not seriously hurt. Dutton suffered a sprained back and head cuts. the Ashworth car was wrecked. Mrs Ashworth received care at John Sweet's home.
During a Methodist service in Livingston Rev. T E Glen denning led a meeting when the Ku Klux Klan entered the church and presented the pastor with a package containing 18 dollars. The Ladies Aid also threw canned foods to the pulpit as thanks for his work.
Duane Prust, with the Cane Dry Goods Co. for over five years, assumes management of the store. The business continues under the Cane name. John F Cane, previous manager, moves to Momence to run a large department store.
Ferrel Arnold was jailed last week for failing to post a $1000 bond on a delinquency charge after pleading guilty. New circuit court cases include Edna Huffman vs Russell Huffman for divorce.
The Herald lists new and renewing subscribers added to the mailing list during the past week from Monday to Saturday. Names include Grant Pritchard Ola Collier La Cole Mrs. Matiflda Rogers Olen R. Clements Hon. J. R. Hamilton and others.
