Longtime Marshall Resident Dies After Illness
Claiborne Claypool, oldest son of Sperry and Nancy Claypool, a longtime Marshall resident born near Chillicothe Ohio May 19 1838, died Thursday at his North Third Street home after paralysis. He married Mary Ellen Miller in 1860 and Sarah Elizabeth Miller in 1866, with four children born to the first marriage and two surviving. He lived in Clark County early life and later ran a general merchandise business with his son Emanuel in Marshall. A Christian church member since youth, funeral services were held at his residence Saturday then at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial followed.

Liquor Purchases Drag Paris Man Before Judge Landis
Federal Judge Landis held court in East St. Louis last week over bootlegging charges. Sherman Saddler of Paris Illinois admitted buying liquor from Baugh Bros in Terra Haute for six years, paying 75 cents a quart. The judge pressed for customer names and ordered an inventory and further proceedings to curb sales in a dry area.

Death of Mrs V Wallace in Marshall Illinois
Mrs Charlotte Wallace wife of Prof L A Wallace died at her North Michigan Street home on Monday of paralysis. Funeral services will be at 2 PM in the Methodist church with interment in the city cemetery. Born August 27 1840 in Rush County Indiana she moved to Marshall in 1860 and married Leander A Wallace. Survived by her husband seven children two sisters several grandchildren and many lifelong friends. She joined the first Methodist church in Marshall in the 1850s and was active in Eastern Star and the Women’s Relief Corps.

Railroads seek higher passenger rates against Utilities Commission

Dr James P English died suddenly Saturday night at his home near Pimento Indiana of apoplexy. He was 64 and had practiced medicine 25 years in Marshall and Terre Haute. He recently bought a farm near Pimento to retire. His wife died a year ago. Hampton Court Singers Delight At Lyceum Night
Attired in period costumes the Hampton Court Singers presented early English music to a large appreciative audience. Pranologues readings and an Irish playlet drew hearty applause and encores. Adam Eaton Not Guilty Declared in Murder Trial
The jury found Adam Eaton not guilty in the death of James Gallagher, deputy county clerk, killed during the August 18 incident after a crowded Marshall court heard days of testimony and defense emphasizing self defense and justification. Gallagher, Eaton’s cousin, had accused him of interfering in affairs and a volatile dispute preceded the fatal shooting at the Eaton home.
