Use Biddy’s Heat To Keep Hen House Warm

Visinois poultrymen can use the heat hens generate to boost eggs and profits. Don Bray of the University of Illinois notes an active hen outputs about 50 btu per hour, with most used for moisture removal and litter dryness. Proper insulation saves heat but must be balanced with ventilation to prevent moisture and ammonia buildup in cold conditions.
