An editorial warns of a possible summer outbreak of infantile paralysis and spinal meningitis. It urges practical steps such as copper-screened vents, milk pasteurization, vitamin-rich foods, and careful hygiene, while discussing broader themes of consistency and foreign competition affecting American industry.
Robert Cox son of Mr and Mrs Emery Cox of Marshall purchased the Marshall Transfer Company from Percy Stanfield Saturday. He says he will carry on the business as it has been done in the past.
Plans by George H. Kennerly of St Louis call for a $40 000 to $50 000 remodeling of the Dulaney National Bank building on North Sixth Street. The two story structure will gain a new Bedford stone front with grill doors, tile floors, marble and walnut counters, two large vaults, a basement furnace and a back one story addition. Occupancy is targeted for November 1 with work to be done largely by local labor and materials sourced in Marshall.
Chicago Heights American Legion endorses Jack Poorman of Chicago Heights for state commander at next fall's state convention in Waukegan. Poorman, a former Marshall lawyer now in Chicago Heights, has led an expansion that boosted the post to fourth in the nation. He is a member of the Meier Poorman law firm and serves on the Bloom Township High School board.
Next Thursday evening May 31 at 7 30 oclock exhibits will be held in several departments at Marshall township high school A manual training exhibition will show work and tools from this year Demonstrations in physics and chemistry occur in the laboratories Domestic science typewriting and agriculture class work will also be open to the public.
Harry B. Potter was recommended for postmaster at Marshall by Congressman William P. Holaday. Senate confirmation is expected this month with Potter to take office June 1. Incumbent postmaster John W. Lewis plans to campaign for state representative, leaving duties to be covered between now and November.
Deputies in Marshall county hold two 18 year old boys from Lafayette and Indianapolis after they allegedly stole a Hudson coach in Terre Haute and a Chrysler coupe in Casey. They were captured in Crown Point and brought to Marshall to await further proceedings.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday afternoon May 30 at the Brick cemetery four miles east of West Union. There will be speaking at 2:00 o clock. A general get together social hour will be held in the evening with refreshments served.
City council approved a paving proposition in May. North Eighth street paving will be let in about 30 days. South Fifth street work continues with curb and gutters at the south end. contract totaling fifteen thousand eight hundred two cents. Grading on North Seventh street is underway with a contract of seventeen thousand two hundred forty dollars.
Mrs. Robert Geisert fractured her left shoulder when a porch swing toppled at her sister's residence, Mrs. Harry Coldren, Wednesday afternoon. She was seated in the swing when it collapsed, causing the injury.

Nectans 4, Marshall to Jessie M. Smith, 18 Marshall. Roscoe Cole, 24, Terre Haute to Sadle Alsum, 18, Terre Haute.
The Clark County Clerk records show 556 births and 337 deaths in about eighteen months. Boys outnumbered girls by 62 in births, while 7 more males than females died. Average lifespans ranged from 55 years 2 months to 61 years for survivors.
Miss Fannie Luckhaupt of Indiana State Normal at Terre Haute has been elected to membership in Kappa Delta Pi the National Honor society. Mr and Mrs Howard Simon left for Findlay Ohio after a weekend visit with her parents. Two new bridges will be built on the Pennsylvania railroad near Marshall by Mellon Construction Company with about 250 workers.
Miss Ruth Washburn will report her Holy Land trip at the District No. 9 convention in Johnson township. The all day event at Zoar Methodist includes a 10:00 start, speakers Elza Chapman and Washburn, afternoon talks, songs from several Sunday schools, readings by Mary Fitch and Bessie Chapman, and a district officer report to close.
The senior class play And Billy Disappeared nears completion for a Tuesday night production at the Pythian theatre. The cast includes Leland Baker Geng Greener Owen Hall Nancy Borden and others. Also the D A R and American Legion Auxiliary plan to assemble soldiers bouquets at City Hall May 29 at 7 00 PM for Memorial Day graves.
Glenn Welsh opened a lunch counter Tuesday evening in the Fraker garage showroom selling sandwiches cold drinks and ice cream to visitors and customers.

Wayne Tyler nine year old son of Mr and Mrs Jack Tyler of Marshall was seriously injured when the car he rode in was struck by a Pennsylvania passenger train at the Macksville crossing in West Terre Haute He was taken to Union hospital in Terre Haute with a fractured skull Mr Tyler suffered a broken arm The car carried Mr and Mrs Tyler and two other children
Miss Anna Palmer of Evansville Indiana will open the Marshall Beauty Shop in rooms above Harold Luse's Gift Shop next week. She plans to offer permanent waving with equipment to be completed shortly.
