A horned toad called Rip Van Winkle allegedly lived over thirty years without air water or food in a stone corner and was seen by many including the President. The President did not confirm the tale after the toad was placed on his desk.
A column contrasts Germanys 31 parties set for Reichstag elections with Americas two major parties and limited political knowledge. It praises Julius Rosenwald for a 20 million plus fund for public benefit with a condition spending all funds within 25 years of his death.

Thief entered Dr R A Mitchell’s South Sixth Street home through an unlocked back door around 5 AM and stole a pocketbook. Mrs Mitchell woke to the intruder then chased him as he fled toward a car on Edwin Clappert’s street. Sheriff Coldren pursued but the suspect vanished. Contents included about $3, personal papers, and an American Auxiliary pin.

Representatives of the Royal Neigh bor camps of Clark Jasper and Cumberland counties will hold a district meeting at the Odd Fellow's Hall in Marshall next Wednesday June 6. Mrs. Riley Davis aged 71 died at home in Dolson township Saturday. Funeral at Clarksville church Sunday at 2:00 pm officiated by Rev. W. A. Fuson. Interment Clarksville cemetery. Paul Jones McCarty aged 16 son of Mrs. Almeda McCarty of Marshall died Saturday morning. Funeral at Christian church Monday at 2:40 pm with Rev. J. A. Sweet officiating. Interment Marshall cemetery.
Mrs Wm T Hollenbeck and her mother Mrs Anna Rackerby spent the weekend in St Louis as guests of Mr and Mrs Neal Hollenbeck. Miss Effie Jumper of Los Angeles met them and accompanied Mrs Hollenbeck back to Marshall to spend the summer there.
The Paris and Danville railroad will be sold by order of the United States Court on July 10 if bids reach at least 200000. Lew Kuhlman has stopped street sprinkling after finds no profit. Henry Taylor of Wabash passes through town noting poor wheat, oats likewise, but corn improving.

Twenty years ago Mrs. Jayne B Kerr and her son visited Miss Margaret Frist in Terre Haute. Miss Mary Rhoads traveled to West Union to oversee telephone work. Mrs. Margie Brown and son George visited relatives in St Louis. J W Lewis and family moved into a new two story colonial style brick home with a full basement and grand veranda.
A Wednesday evening party at Mr. and Mrs. John Salter’s home honored their son Clifford who leaves Friday for Jefferson Barracks Missouri. Fifty six guests attended with music and games followed by ice cream cake and candy. Prof. Harnish of the high school will teach vocational agriculture at Bradford High School. Prof. Ralph Wilson will head the manual training department at a Keokuk high school. Miss Isabelle Robinson hosted a porch dance and supper for the high school graduating class. Leonard Marrs of Camp Taylor and John Fox of Camp Pike visited their families in the county this week.
Mrs Ada Yonts manager of the Pioneer Creamery was injured Saturday when a spill occurred while testing cream She received prompt medical attention and is reported to be getting along nicely.
The Marshall Township High School will hold its 25th annual commencement this evening at 8:00 in the high school auditorium. Albert Stump of Indianapolis will deliver the address to 76 graduates, the largest class yet. O A Keiser will present diplomas as the class, including Ruth Abel Russell Abel and many others, receives diplomas and farewells.

Rev. L. Z. Smith, pastor of Windsor Christian Church for four years, has accepted a call to lead the Christian Church at Marshall. He and Mrs. Smith will move to Marshall soon, marking a notable advancement for the Windsor pastor.
Dr. and Mrs. C. D. Mitchell hosted the J. F. F. Club on a Wednesday evening. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Don Medsker, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hill, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Holscher, Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Allen, and numerous couples with prizes won by Hill, Bethards, Rademaker, Medsker, McCauley, and Allen.
Mr and Mrs. Oscar Wright near Woodbury marked their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday at their home. Attendees included numerous relatives and friends from Mt. Carmel Charleston Gila Strassburg Windsor Marshall Zion City and West Union.
George F. Taubeneck of Marshall received the Skull and Crescent watch and Sigma Delta Chi medal at the University of Illinois Honor Day. Skull and Crescent is an honorary sophomore society that awards the watch annually to the top student in activities and scholarship.
A Sunday dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Myers celebrated his birthday. Guests included Frank Corte and daughters Loreta and Rosa, son Forrest, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Beggs, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Burns and child of Robinson, Mrs. T. D.
