A seven year old girl, daughter of Wil Kibby, was mauled by a vicious bull dog on South Sixth Street Thursday afternoon while returning from school. The child suffered severe injuries including the loss of one ear. the dog was killed the following day.
County Clerk Morton reports specifications for National Road improvements this year. A concrete section 4500 feet long will connect with last year’s work east of Martinsville. Work to be started immediately at an estimated cost of 8360 dollars.
The body of Harrison Chambers 10 of Casey was found on the Minors Central track south of Sullivan Ind yesterday. Police report he was struck by a passing train with head injuries but no other injuries noted. A bottle of liquor and 4.20 dollars were found in his pockets.

Notes include numbers of diplomas and certificates, Reading Circle activities, staff recalls, and county institute plans for August 28 to September 1 with sectional sessions for rural and high school staff. In Congress turmoil over a Mexican outrage President Wilson finally approves a limited mobilization. Gen Funston seeks 150000 troops but only 6000 National Guard units from Texas Arizona and New Mexico are called up to guard the border while regular troops pursue bandits into Mexico.
About 16 000 Westinghouse Electric Co workers in Pittsburgh returned to their jobs on the old terms yesterday after a strike that cost nearly 1 500 000 dollars in lost wages. Meanwhile German undersea warfare continues with activity focused on war vessels and British trading ships, several of which have been sunk in the past week.

Three New York buyers working with Morris Logue have shipped more than 3000 car loads of baled hay from the county since last year’s harvest. Farmers have earned over $10 per ton on the crop, totaling about $400,000.
Myrl Pratt of Casey seeks divorce from William Pratt in circuit court. They married in May 1914 at Wapokaneta Ohio. William was convicted of larceny in Adams county Ohio in October 1914 and sentenced to eight years, now serving in Indiana state prison.

Professor I L Gifford of Marshall is elected superintendent of the Oblong public schools for the coming year at a good salary. The appointment reflects confidence in his leadership and promises continuity in district education.
The graduating class of forty three from the city schools will hold closing exercises at the M E church Friday after noon May 26. Rev Wm H H Ziegler will deliver the address to the class. The Marshall and orchestras will provide music.

Pastor Joseph L. Buyer leads Evangelical Association services at Zion Church Big Creek Sunday 10 30 a m and 7 30 p m at the church in Marshall. Sunday school at 9 30 a m May 21 at Zion and Immanuel Grand Turn in the evening. Strangers welcome at all services.
The Christian Church invites all to a 7 30 prayer meeting at the church tonight. Teachers meet next Tuesday at the home of Rhy Hunt. Monthly exchange starts on the fourth Saturday. Mothers Day observed next Sunday with morning services. The Christian Endeavor and Congregational church unite for the C BE service at 6 30. Other services follow as usual, Jones, Pastor.

Dr J C Black of Chicago and his wife stayed with Rev and Mrs D T Black in Humboldt Saturday night and Sunday. Burglars robbed J C of $25, a suit, shoes and a gold watch, and fled toward a gypsy camp. Bloodhounds traced the thieves but the stolen goods were not recovered. J C wore his father’s suit to fulfill a church promise as the crowded service concluded the weekend.
Transfers show multiple parcels changing hands including Wm A Thorntons to Enos Makers Lot 22 Dulaneys 5th Casey for 150 dollars and Geo A Thielen to CF Funk Lot 10 Dulaneys 6th Casey for 1050 dollars plus several other deeds.
Mrs Mary Ann Mark Hippard died at her home on North Sixth Street Marshall after a long illness. She was a lifelong Congregational member, life deaconess, widow of Henry B Killiffe, mother of Chas A Killiffe Elizabeth Jane Liston Ned and William B, later married to George A Hippard. Survived by brother Levi L Mark five children and nine grandchildren. Funeral services held at Congregational church conducted by Rev E G Sandmeyer and Rev W W Ziegler.
Representatives from various judges in Marshall met in Red Men’s hall to organize a joint Decoration Day ceremony. Sherl Davis was elected chairman and J R Sullivan secretary. May 30 was set as the date. A committee will invite the GAR post and fraternal bodies to participate and marshal duties were assigned to John Hawker and Harry Maurer. A main grand marshal may be named by the GAR.
