The Marshall Blue Ribbons Home Economics 4-H club held a candlelighting service at Armtro church with Cristie Davidson and Donna Lowry as candlelighters. The event included a club induction ceremony conducted by Judy Martin Hyla Kuhn Alane Davidson Donna Pearson Susan Welsh Alta Bartram and Mrs Fenton Shirely. A public hearing will be held at the City Council meeting Monday night May 11 at 7 30 regarding Federal Housing in Marshall. All interested parties should attend. The Casey City Council reportedly voted last Monday to stop further expenditures on public housing for the present.

Mr and Mrs Thomas Curl of Paris announce their first child Cynthia Katherine a daughter born at Paris Hospital April 30 weighing seven pounds Mrs Curl formerly Shirley Schooh of Marshall. Mr and Mrs Thomas Dashiel Jr welcome a son Michael Thomas born April 29 at Union Hospital weighing six pounds fifteen ounces Mrs Dashiel formerly Charlotte Ann Coleman. Mr and Mrs Max Melton Rural Route 1 Dennison announce a son Keith Allen born Sunday May 3 at Paris Hospital weighing eight pounds twelve ounces their second child mother Ruth Ann Parker. Rev and Mrs H J Kemp and granddaughter Laura Lea Kemp visited Sunday with Mr and Mrs Myles McEleary in Sandborn Ind.
Seven men from Clark county returned from Washington D C after a three day trip with 235 Wabash Valley business and civic leaders to press for flood control and water and soil development on the Wabash tributaries. The group highlighted a deadly drought and spring floods that caused 12 million dollars in losses along the Wabash River. The delegation included Robert Flowers Marshall William Turner Casey, Congressman George Shipley, Joe Kemp Marshall Russell Logue Casey Boyd R Nichols West Union Gordon Coryell and Lyman K Shawler West Union.
Mr and Mrs Marion McConchie announce the approaching marriage of their daughter Phyllis to Donald Arthur Tolen son of Mr and Mrs Raymond Tolen of Kansas Illinois The couple both attend Eastern Illinois University Phyllis is a senior and Donald a junior The wedding is set for May 31 at 730 pm at First Congregational Church Marshall with a reception at the bride's home
Sam Hutchison a Republican of Darwin township was appointed a rural mail carrier out of Casey to take effect May 16. Marriage licenses were issued in Robinson to George W Carter West York and Grace Eaton of West Union. A son was born to Mr and Mrs William Melton at Westfield, Mrs Melton being 36 with 14th child. The Democrat praised Miss Crow Martinsville for county superintendent of schools but warned against bosses.

Thirty years ago in 1934 Clark County mourned state representative Sol Handy a lifelong resident who died Thursday morning May 3. Fifteen Marshall Senior Girl Scouts from troop 45 with leaders Mr Jane Acton and Mrs Anne Ischa and two chaperone mothers spent three action packed days in Chicago. They departed Terre Haute at 6 00 a m Friday April 17 and arrived at 10 00 a m. Reservations were made at the Palmer Hall. After lunch at Marshall Fields they shopped and toured the Prudent building and viewed the city from a bird’s eye perspective. They saw How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Its a Mad Mad Mad World. Dinner was at the Blackhawk Restaurant both nights. An all day guided tour included the Museum of Science and Industry, Chinatown, Old Town, Brookfield Zoo and Washington Park with a guide explaining the Fountain of Time. Sunday services were held at Chicago Temple St Pauls Cathedral and they returned to Terre Haute about 7 00 p m.
Marriage licenses were issued to William Richard Smith and Wands Lee Watters, and Albert Leon Branson and Mario Bunnett were listed for Springfield Illinois. Billy Jack Combs and Sue Anne Outcast were noted in the same notices. Henry Murphy of 611 South 5 Street Marshall underwent surgery at Union Hospital Terre Haute Tuesday and returned home Wednesday afternoon.
Lou Celia Stoelting 26 and William Finkbiner 72 died Thursday at St Anthony Hospital Terre Haute. James Stutler was 7, child of Mr and Mrs Foster Stutler of Route 1. Dennison fatally struck by a truck on US 40 near Col Store eight miles east of Marshall.
Twenty years ago Paul Baker of Marshall was commissioned as a lieutenant in the naval reserve on March 24 in a signing by Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox. A marriage license was issued to James M. Botsick and Susan James Haviland, both of Marshall. Everett Olinger and Mary Lewis, both Marshall residents, also obtained licenses. Coleman Finley and his wife, formerly of Kansas, recently moved to the Tom Morgan farm. A car accident near Martinsville left a 2-door sedan destroyed after stalling on the Pennsylvania railroad track as a westbound train approached. the occupants escaped.

Dr. Quincy Doudna, president of Eastern Illinois University, will speak to 23 NHS members and guests on Monday May 11 1964 at 645 p.m. in the high school cafeteria on the topic On Being Educated. He notes delight in contact with such students and outlines his early schooling career from 1927 in Antigo Wisconsin.
Mr and Mrs Joe Geheb will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary next Thursday May 14. They have one daughter Mrs Elnora Kirk. No celebration has been planned. Cards and letters will be appreciated.
