In 1861 Col. Carrington sent soldiers to Marshall Clark County to seize deserters. Judge Charles R. Constable arrested the officers on kidnapping charges, released the deserters, and posted bail. Carrington informed Maj. Gen. Wright who ordered restraint and Constable to oversee the situation.

Two Small Roof Fires Reported Saturday in Marshall
At noon the Marshall fire department fought a small roof fire at R. Co. Jacobs barber shop near Black's Hotel on East Main street. Early in the afternoon a roof fire at James G. Moye’s home on North Seventh street was extinguished with chemicals. Both fires were believed caused by chimney sparks.

Fred E Warner of Indiananosis died at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis at 5:00 p m Monday aged 62. He is survived by his wife Stella and son Clifford of Detroit and brothers R D Warner of Danville and Clyde J Warner of Muncie. Funeral was at Trinity NM EB church Indianapolis yesterday at 1 30 pm with burial in Danville. Mrs Warner was formerly Stella Montgomery, sister of Clay Montgomery.

Tourists Die After Train Collision Near Martinsville
Mr and Mrs Dan A Rost of Zanesville Ohio were killed when their Chevrolet sedan was struck by Pennsylvania Railroad train No 13 westbound at a crossing east of Martinsville at 3 25 am as they traveled to Edwardsville to visit. The car was dragged 1600 feet and the wreckage was beyond recognition. A baby’s clothing found in the car led investigators to conclude the Rosts were expecting an infant and no third victim remained unaccounted for.

Former Martinsville Girl Killed by Train at Dudley
Miss Linnie Stricker aged 19 was found dead beside the Big Four railroad tracks near Dudley on Sunday afternoon. A brakeman on the second passenger train spotted the body and notified the ticket agent to investigate. Survived by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Stricker and several siblings, she lived in Dudley with her family.
