Relatives of Frank Tingley, missing since November, received a telegram that his body was found in the desert near a small town east of Los Angeles and is being shipped to Marshall. He left Marshall November 15 1927 to visit his daughter in Inglewood. a bag bearing his papers was found in Victorville. Police across the region had searched since then. Mr Tingley is a Marshall resident’s brother.
John Cline of Paris, contractor for the South Fifth street paving, started work Monday. The street crossings were removed that day, but little progress has been made since. Mayor John McCauley says work will continue as weather allows.
This afternoon at 2 00 pm the Marshall Women's Club hosts a demonstration by Mrs Eva L Correll home economist for Central Illinois Public Service Co Springfield Her lecture titled Why We Refrigerate Foods invites the public to attend at the American Legion club rooms.
Mrs. Mary Ann Dickerson age 81 died at her daughter’s near Darwin Sunday. Funeral at the Mitchell home Tuesday with Rev. Leach officiating. Interment at Highland Lawn, Terre Haute. Robert N. McCauley 78 died in Anna Sunday. services at Paris Catholic church with Father Cronin. interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Paris. sons John and Charles survive. Sidney Braynard 35 died after epileptic seizure Monday four miles north of Christian. funeral Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Marshall Christian Church. interment Marshall Cemetery. wife two children, brother Earl of Cincinnati, sister Burns Hurst of Marshall survive.
Charles B Spencer aged 70 died Tuesday evening March 20 at his sister Mrs. Annabel Boswell home in Terre Haute. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:00 pm at his former residence east of Marshall with burial in Livingston cemetery.
Mr and Mrs R C Mowery will leave May first for a new home in Clifton Kansas. Rev Mowery has served as pastor of the Christian church in Marshall for three years and resigned on March 1. No successor has been chosen for the Marshall church.
Judge Shuey presiding at Charleston circuit term continues as cases in court include Estella Linn obtaining a divorce from W B Linn on charges of adultery. Prohibition cases yield 60 day county jail sentences for Clint Creed and Ira Hammersley amid other chancery and probate actions.
The music department presents the musical comedy Pickles in Old Vienna at the Pythian theatre next Friday April 6. About 55 cast and chorus members perform under Miss Margaret Bull with assistants Miss Kermit Cochran and Miss Mabel Nowlin.
Jack Daugherty was arrested by Sheriff Coldren and Deputy Roy Cropp at his York home on a charge of assault with intent to kill after an attack that left William Reed of York severely cut. Daugherty bonded out for $1000 with his brother Neil Daugherty signing, and his case awaits the next grand jury.
Oil was struck Monday afternoon on the Harrison farm in Indiana across the river from the Narrows near West Union. A depth of 2500 feet was reached before reports indicated the hole is dry. A. H. Hill of Indianapolis owns the lease.
In New York In County Court the petition in the estate of Douglas Blackburn was granted Maggie C Blackburn appointed administrator with a $2000 bond. Letters issued. Appraisers J M Turner George Douglas and Charles Hix named. Adjustment day set for the first Monday in May.
Rep Wm P Holaday of Illinois touts Frank O Lowden as the best Republican nominee predicting 322 electoral votes to 209 for Al Smith if nominated. He argues Lowden’s record aligns with Republican principles, opposes the League of Nations, and pledges law enforcement and economy.
The Women’s Club postpones its regular monthly meeting to Thursday night April 12 due to Passion Week services at the Congregational church during the week.
Walter Blueher and Andrew McCourt of Terre Haute were arrested Saturday in Effingham by Railroad Detective Brown for stealing a coat from the section foreman at Adenmoor near Marshall. Sheriff Coldren and Deputy Cropp returned them to Marshall. Judge Jed Gard found McCourt guilty and sentenced him to 60 days on the Vandalia penal farm. Blueher was discharged.
Paul Gallagher son of Mrs. Allen Wallis stars in An Ace in the Hole at the American theatre Chattanooga as constable and hotel porter among other roles. The Lew Breckinridge Musical Comedy company opens a week at the venue with strong praise from Cincinnati critics for Gallagher’s rube monologue and his leading comic influence.
Notices received Monday from the Civil Service Commission at Washington list three eligible applicants for the Marshall post office. Harry Potter, Sol Handy, and True Booth hold grades of 88, 4, and 83 respectively and are available for appointment.

Everett Staley 17, a Casey Township High School senior and son of Clayton and Mrs. Staley of Moriah, was killed Wednesday evening while crossing the Pennsylvania railroad tracks on Central Avenue. He paused for eastbound No 44 then was struck by westbound No 11, instantly killed as his skull was crushed.
