Martinsville Resident Dies After Hemorrhage on Train
John O. Milter prominent Martinsville township figure and father of Mrs. H. R. Snavely of Marshall died last Wednesday evening in Terre Haute after a violent hemorrhage of the lungs. He collapsed on the Vandalia train and expired within minutes at Union Station despite medical aid.

Death of 14 Year Old Edna Romoser in Anderson Township
Clara Edna Romoser daughter of Christian and Fannie Romoser died at her home in Anderson township at 14 after long illness. She belonged to the Evangelical Association and was beloved by many. Survived by her mother two brothers three sisters and numerous relatives. Funeral held at the family home with burial in Ziegler cemetery.

Price of Water Increased by Marshall City Council
The Marshall city council raised water rates to the Big Four railway by 100 percent claiming wartime needs. A 10 year old contract with the railway set water at 4 1 4 cents per 1000 gallons, expiring March 4. Treasurer Musselman reported fund balances and February activity while police magistrate Law noted four February cases with fines. The attorney was instructed to draft a dog tax ordinance.

The Big Four crews reinforce the Cairo river bank with 1000 to 1500 feet of piling in two rows sunk 40 feet. They haul 700 carloads of 10 ton rocks from near Greencastle Indiana, lifted by a traveling steam crane and placed to form a strong bulwark against the river.

Death of Oliver Morgan in Anderson Township
Oliver Morgan died Saturday at his home in Anderson Township after a brief illness from pneumonia. Funeral services were held Monday at Hatton M P Church conducted by Rev J C Cring. Born in Melrose Township November 10 1854 he married Johannah Koppler July 26 1876. they had six children, only their first, Jane, died at age 11. He joined the United Brethren Church at Grand Turn then moved to the M P Church of Hatton where he remained a member. He left behind his wife and four daughters Mrs Julia Drummond Mrs Hannah Davison Mrs Martha Serwise and Mrs Christena Draper, twelve grandchildren, five brothers, two sisters and many friends.

Sudden Death Of J. G. Cooper In Orange Township
Joseph G. Cooper died suddenly at his home in Orange township on Thursday night after a quiet evening at home. He was 64 years old, born August 16, 1852 in Bartholomew County Indiana and moved to Illinois in 1857. Funeral services were held at Olive Branch Baptist church and interment followed in the adjacent cemetery. He leaves a son Hamie four grandchildren a half-brother Thomas Cooper of West York and a brother William P. Cooper of Arkansas.

Death of George Johnson in Clark County
George Johnson a longtime Clark County resident died Friday afternoon after ten years of illness. Born February 17 1838 in Canada he served three years in the 57th Tilmois Volunteers. He lived in Galesburg before 1871 marriage to Eliza McElroy at Vincennes Indiana. They moved to Clark County where three children were born Anna Coolin Sidney Haeniz Ella who died at two. Survived by widow two daughters ten grandchildren and many relatives. Funeral Thursday at the U B church conducted by Rev N E Royer with burial in city cemetery.

Another Old Soldier Gone Henry Baker Dies at 81
Henry Baker died Sunday at his Marshall home after a long illness. He served in Co. C 155th Illinois during the Civil War and helped build churches in every community he lived. Born September 2 1835 in Monroe County Ohio, he married Polly Pennell in 1858 and lived on farms in Clark County and near Auburn before moving to Marshall nine years ago. He is survived by his widow two and a half dozen grandchildren and many friends. burial was in Auburn after a short funeral at his home.
