Mattoon dispatch reports Judge Morton W. Thompson of Danville failed to win reappointment to the appellate court after six months on the bench. Supreme Court assignments omitted his name, prompting speculation he may be returned to circuit duties to ease Fifth district operations.
An endurance race from Newman to near Marshall is planned for tomorrow. Drivers Henley Eversole for Reo and W M Elmore for E M F compete for a $100 stake. The event attracts much interest at Newman with many cars expected to follow the race tomorrow afternoon.
Plans for the Fourth of July celebration under the County Sunday School Association are progressing with Sunday schools countywide pledging support and competing for prizes. Events will be centered on the north side of the square with a large crowd anticipated. another meeting at the courthouse Friday evening will finalize arrangements.
A new oil pool about a mile west of Lawrenceville reports first well production of 450 barrels daily. In Illinois field Crawford county last week 26 completions occurred with Lawrence 13 Clark 4 and total production 2386 barrels.
A deadly freight train collision occurred on the Vandalia line near Liggett on Wednesday night. One crew member, Cummings of Vandalia, was seriously injured as two trains collided and a caboose derailed and burned, with responders racing to the wrecked area.
Walter Craig, longtime employee of the Vandalla railroad, left on Monday for Norfolk Virginia to enter the government training station for study in wireless telegraphy in preparation for joining the navy.
Rev. Baksh, a native of In statewill, will lecture at Clarksville Mee church tomorrow evening and at Daigon Chapel Friday evening. Representing Tooge-W Biscuit Co in the city, he will call at homes with samples of Sunshine cakes crackers and sugar water.

The Big Four will start through trains from Chicago to Evansville on Sunday June 23, moving Evansville as a main line. Trains to Evansville will include Pullman cars, while non Pullman services run between Mt. Carmel and Cairo. Traffic imbalances on the Evansville branch drive the change, aimed at competing with Chicago and Eastern Illinois and Illinois Central for southern traffic.
Good roads advocates in Casey organize a one day project to improve ten miles of the National road between Casey and Greenup with volunteer labor. Lightning struck the Central Lumber Company sheds in Martinsville during a Sunday storm, burning about $12,000 of lumber with $9,000 insured. West winds spread embers across the east side, hindering fire crews who had no local water supply, though most lumber in yards remained undamaged.
The Clark County Board of Review met Monday to begin its regular summer session. S. H. Elsedge of Auburn township chairs the board with J. H. Davison of Anderson and F. Chalmers Martin Hamill of Terre Haute married Edna Elizabeth Barr daughter of Mr and Mrs James D Barr at a large Paris ceremony. Rev John Allen Blair and Rev Ira W Allen officiated. Bride wore ivory satin with lace and orchid bouquet. After a reception at the Barr home the couple sailed to Burt Lake Michigan before settling in Terre Haute.
