Death of J. R. Crossley Ends Long Marshall Life
John R. Crossley longtime Marshall resident aged 86 4 months and 41 days died peacefully last Thursday at his home. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Congregational church with Rev Wm J Drew and Rev I B Lee officiating. Crossley born Feb 9 1826 near Georgetown Ohio lived in Ohio Iowa California and Illinois before settling in Clark county in 1857. He was married twice and had three sons. A deacon and lifelong temperance advocate his life reflected consistent civic and moral values.

Arrangements are complete for a Sunday school Fourth of July celebration. Events begin at 10 30 with a parade of visiting delegations and a 5 prize for the largest delegation. Prizes for decorated floats vehicles bicycles bands and riders follow with multiple placements. The day features contests including races and a four mile motorcycle race and ends with fireworks and a band concert. Improving the National Road Volunteers Clean Ten Miles
The national road between Casey and Greenup was improved last Wednesday by 45 teams and 75 men. Ditches, fills, culverts, and grading were completed, leaving the section in excellent temporary condition. A similar project is planned between Martinsville and the Indiana state line on Monday July 1 with support from local businessmen and farmers.

Dies to Save Friend at Indian Refinery
A Wednesday accident at the Indian Refinery in Lawrenceville saw employee Brown entering a fuel oil tank car to clean it.
