In a Friday session in the Clark County contest case the court adjourned around 5 00 p m. after witnesses were examined and a motion to dismiss discussed. The suit was continued to Wednesday June 41 with possible start time noted.
In a circuit court in Paris Judge Robert Cotton presiding, Doyle Hurst represented 5 Canners Inc. The case went to the jury after three days of hearing evidence, and the jury returned a verdict awarding the trucking firm $5,000 for damages and loss of use of their truck.
Mrs Rex W King of the Marshall House Hotel suffered a fractured knee and bruises when her car rebounded from a highway embankment and struck a utility pole in a Decatur residential area. She was treated at St Mary's Hospital and returned to Union Hospital for further care. She is described as the agent for the Thin Company of America Base.
The notice lists several couples from Indiana towns including Martinsville, Terre Haute, Paris, Casey and North Terre Haute as obtaining marriage licenses. Mr and Mrs Raymond Miller and daughters Kay and Jackie escorted Mrs Elizabeth Miller to El Paso to settle the estate of late brother Rolland Clapp who died last March at Beaumont Army Hospital. The party, joined by Terry Cooper and James Sweet, then toured Ciudad Juarez and Las Cruces before visiting La Posta in Mesilla New Mexico. They returned home Sunday evening. Elizabeth's first long trip.
The Clark County Fair opens Sunday afternoon with the McKinley Rodeo proclaimed top Western rodeo on the circuit. Horse racing starts Sunday at 7 30 p m and runs through Thursday with Friday tractor pulling climax and evening entertainment including the Grand Ole Opry Wilburn Brothers and Miss Clark County Fair Queen 1963 crowning. Box seats available through secretary Mrs Norma Cline.
Marshall Lions sponsor open auditions at the American Legion Home on Saturday June 8 from 7 30 to 9 00 p m for See How They Run a three act farce. Cast includes three women and six men with performances set for July 12 and 13.
The Herald reports Lowney Handy sent two new books to the paper Jerre Peacock's Valhalla a war story of Korean Japan life and its peace-time actions and Charles Wright's The Messenger a fiction exploring the human condition and Wall Street's underworld. A letter from Handy praises ideas and thought-power.
Registration for swimming lessons runs Monday and Tuesday with sessions at 10 00 and 12 00 am. Lessons start June 17 for two weeks with days Monday to Thursday and a Friday makeup. Classes cover beginner and intermediate times and include synchronized swimming on Friday and life saving classes from 6 00 to 7 00 pm for three weeks.
Marilyn Kuhn sues Harold W. Kuhn in circuit court seeking a divorce. Proceedings list the case caption Kuhn versus Kuhn with relief sought as dissolution of marriage and related support issues.
County sponsors a recognition dinner during the Martinsville Fair with Speaker W Lewis and Representatives. Merchants and interested residents will be asked to cooperate in supporting the 4-H program, following last year's strong county sales record.
Judith Black Budd died Friday morning May 31 at Union Hospital Terre Haute Indiana. She is survived by parents Judith and Budd and six children including Judith Black Budd and others. Funeral services Sunday at Moore Funeral Home with Rev L D Lang officiating and burial in Macedonia Cemetery northwest of Casey.
Mrs. Helen Hanna aged 61 died Sunday in Cleveland Ohio. She is survived by three sisters Peggy Nelson Carmel Grace Vandever of Washington DC and Iva Woodyard of Ashmore Illinois and a brother John Hanna of Billings Montana. Funeral services were held Thursday at Moore Funeral Home at 2:00 PM with Rev Campbell officiating. Burial followed in Gill Cemetery.
Relatives and friends received word last week of the death of Mrs Miner va Eaton, 82, of California. She is survived by her husband Marion, two sons, and two daughters, all of California. One brother, Harry Mathew, of near Dreseer Plant vicinity, and several nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by her Clark county friends as Minerva Mathew.
Dr. R D Howell son of E E Howell died Sunday morning at his Indianapolis residence. Survived by widow two children and brother Dr Joe Howell of Indianapolis. Funeral service and burial held in Indianapolis on Tuesday.
Mrs Janet Junker Jones daughter of Mr and Mrs Russell Junker Route 5 Marshall earned a bachelor of science at Indiana Central College in a June 2 ceremony. Daniel F Wilkinson formerly of Marshall and son of Mr and Mrs L Q Wilkinson Kansas Illinois also earned a bachelor of science in the same class.
Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln Illinois conducted graduation exercises at Lincoln Christian Church on Friday May 31. Beth Heckler of Marshall earned a Bachelor of Arts degree as part of the graduating class.
City council heard engineer George Taubeneck report the water plant now pumps about 700000 gallons every 24 hours and struggles to keep up with demand. He noted higher output than two years ago when water was shipped to Paris.

Thirty years ago in 1933 William Fancher, 25, was killed instantly when his motorcycle collided with a Big Four freight train at a crossing north of Oliver. Hector Braden Dulaney, 72, died at his sister’s home Sunday. Kenneth Lauher, 8, grandson of Omer Rhoads, was bruised after a horse and truck collision near Oliver. horse killed. Births include a Morgan boy and a Leslie Drake boy. Jimmy Warner, 5, injured after a fall from a car Monday night.
Twenty years ago Daniel Spittler aged 62 was injured on his Marshall area farm and died en route to Union Hospital Terre Haute. Mr and Mrs Lester Johnson Marshall announce the marriage of their daughter Lila to Charles E Milbourn. Births include Joan Miller born May 28 near Marshall and Mary Joan Kearns born Friday evening to Mr and Mrs Roy Kearns of Chicago.

Thomas A. McClain of Chicago will discuss spiritual progress for mankind in the twentieth century in a public lecture at 8 00 p m Tuesday June 11 in the Methodist Church Marshall Admission is free McClain is a Christian Science Board of Lectureship member and has traveled extensively for church activities after a World War II service and a career in Christian Science healing
Mr and Mrs Olen Clements of Chicago visited Marshall Friday then attended the funeral for Mrs Mary Doll Culp of Hutsonville who died May 80. Services were at Hutsonville Methodist church at 2 PM with burial in West York cemetery. Culp was 91 years old and the oldest descendant of Benjamin Sanford Clements.

Temple Lovett to represent Clark County chapter of the Wabash Valley Association in Washington from June 10 to 12. He will meet with the House Public Works Subcommittee and Senate Public Works, plus Interior Agriculture and Health agencies. Ninety counties attend to press for greater flood control and conservation funding. the area seeks a larger share of tax dollars.

Mr and Mrs Charles Miller of Palatine Illinois announce a son born Monday June 8 at the Elgin Illinois hospital weighing 87 lbs 9 ozs their fourth child Mrs Miller is formerly Kay Staub.
The Marshall Municipal Band held its organization meeting and elected President Doris Kay Gard Vice President Joe Macke Secretary Treasurer Harold Ellshoff and Director Vaughn Arney for the year. It plans Friday concerts with the first on June 21 at 8:00 p.m. DST.

Walter Burdick chapter of the DAR met Monday afternoon with sixteen members present. Mrs. Dan Gard led the business session while Mrs. Omar Blankenship presented an engaging program titled Why We Cannot Wave the Flag Too Much. Officers were elected and hostesses included Mrs. Irene Cline Mrs. Otho Miller and Mrs. Omar Blankenship.
