The election contest gained momentum at 1:30 pm with witnesses called and examined. The court adjourned at 5:00 pm until 1:30 pm next day to resume counting ballots, with the exact number of ballots remaining uncertain.
On Saturday night Clark County Coal and Feed Company reported an entry and the theft of some money. Sunday night Clark Service Company was visited with cash taken and damage to coke and other machinery observed.
Next Sunday June 16 Fred and Glennie Burger observe their twenty-fifth anniversary with an open house at their Martinsville area farm home from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited. no gifts are expected.
Six Clark County 4-H members join about 1500 Illinois 4-H youths at the University of Illinois Urbana campus for State 4-H Club Week June 18 to 21. Activities include project goal discussions, career talks, demonstrations, and performances by the 4-H chorus. Special speakers include Frank M. Liddle and Charles T. Vetter Jr. with tours of Assembly Hall and a barbecue and dance planned.

Mrs. Neva Buesking of Strasburg Illinois spoke at the local society gathering last Thursday afternoon at the church. Gifts were given to Mrs. Carroll Bender and Mrs. Carroll Bennett. Members attending included Miss Marie Taylor Mrs. Harold Wernz Jane Cartha Mrs. Leon Koppler Joanne Mrs. Harry Willman Mrs. Carroll Bader Mrs. Buesking and Pastor and Mrs. Henry Kuhn. At honors day at Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln Illinois a freshman Miss Jack received a 25 scholarship. The event cited the college and student name tied to the award.
The Marshall community notes the Wednesday and Thursday funeral services for Robert Francis Melcho nine day old son of Mr and Mrs Melcho and for Ralph V Tapscott OS both with services led by local clergy. Surviving family lists and cemetery burials appear with service times at Moore Funeral Home. Emma Nicol 71 died June 12 with rites planned at Moore Funeral Home and Marshall Cemetery.
About 400 ministers and lay representatives gather at Pfeiffer Hall North Central College Naperville for the 119th Illinois conference session led by Bishop Rueben H. Mueller opening at 2:00 p m Monday June 17 and concluding June 20. Attendees include Rev H V Johnson Rev W O Simpson Margaret Ann Tingley and Lois Norton as they prepare to elect a conference superintendent and director along with conference board members for a quadrennium representing roughly 50 000 EUBS in Illinois.
Miss Diane Edens daughter of Mr and Mrs W L Edens Farmington Michigan wed Paul Fryers of Monroe Michigan Saturday June 8 at Farmington Methodist church A reception followed at the Edens home Diane earned Western Michigan University degree in 1963 and teaches in Farmington high school Paul graduated from Michigan State in 1962 and is in Officers Training School Navy Georgia Mr and Mrs Fred Wilfond attended horse races in Charleston Sunday afternoon.
Dr Robert D Howell 57 longtime physician and IU medical school faculty member died at 4 30 am Sunday June 2 in his home at 6941 Washington Blvd Indianapolis He commanded the 113th Medical Battalion in World War II and served on multiple hospital staffs and medical boards Survivors include widow Lorinda Howell son Robert C Howell daughter Patricia Jane Howell and brother Joseph D Howell Burial was in Crown Hill cemetery
Mrs Getrude List was appointed district deputy of district 27 for the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. The supreme appointment was approved at the recent Supreme Session in New Orleans and granted by Mayme R Edwards. List, former Messiah Shrine leader, also heads the Mayme R Edwards Jewels and Gem Club meeting monthly in Mattoon with members from multiple shrines including Terre Haute and Marshall. Other district 27 appointments include leading officers and committee members across associated shrines.
Mrs Mary Spotts departed Friday to return to Campbell California after visiting her brother Robert Clements in Dunedin Florida and the Clements family in West Terre Haute Indiana.
