Mrs Leon Newman pays tribute to retiring educators Mr Hendrix after forty-one years of service. The poem honors their dedication to guiding and inspiring students, noting their impact from the first day of school and the lasting influence on numerous lives.
Sheriff Shea and a deputy tracked a stolen cow from Terre Haute toward Dunlap and found it with John Cottam who and his wife denied the theft though a calf was said sold to a Terre Haute butcher. Cottam surrendered to the sheriff on Saturday.
Thirty years ago in 1933 Leslie Vern Drake was born Friday to Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Drake who live northeast of Marshall. Kenneth Lauher, eight, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Omer Rhoads near Oliver, was injured when a truck struck the pavement while he rode a horse Saturday morning. he was badly bruised but fine. Jimmy Warner, five, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Warner, was injured Monday night when he fell from a car near North Ninth Street after a show, with facial bruises but no serious harm.

Mrs. Margaret Leasure's fourth grade class at South Side School incubated duck eggs with a small electric incubator. Students took turns turning eggs and reading temperature, culminating in twelve baby ducks. The ducks were shown to other classes under a heat lamp for several days.
Charles Stevenson Wright among Handy Colony founders who arrived in Marshall in 1951 and joined the program. Reared by his grandmother in Sedalia Missouri, he left high school to serve in the Korean War. His work The Messenger likely to sell next Tuesday June 4.
A member of the Marshall maker's graduating class at Eastern Illinois Teachers College Charleston will receive a bachelor of education degree with high honors this Friday at 10:00 am. Mrs. Dick Davidson has been visiting Nashville with her son James and his wife. Mrs. Gertrude Poorman returned home after ten days with her daughter in Dayton. Mrs. James Craig and her Ferguson, Missouri family are visiting relatives in West Terre Haute this week. Mrs. Sue Haviland returned from Cleveland after visiting friends.
The week’s weather favored farmers for corn and soybean harvests while army worms caused damage in various areas. Pvt Roscoe Mason visited his parents in Kentucky. Mrs Joe Viale from Livermore, California visited her sister in town. Pvt David Switzer spent the weekend at Fort Riley with his wife. G W Gibson family traveled to Findlay Ohio for his mother’s illness. Lt and Mrs Earl Turner and daughter Patricia Ann and Commander and Mrs Ofsted and son from Olathe Kansas visited relatives here.

L. Gordon Cooper spoke at the 53rd National Council meeting in New York praising scouting’s influence on his life. Major Cooper noted his regret at not earning the Eagle Scout badge and urged scouts to pursue excellence and apply scouting teachings.
University of Illinois scholarships awarded in Clark County through Myron R. Tedrick list winners by category. Gary Lee Ellerson Casey earns County. Lawrence Kermit Patchett Casey earns Child of World War I veteran. James Frank Mitchell Marshall earns Child of the Korean Conflict. Examinations occur annually on the last Saturday in March and are graded by the University.
The Knights of Pythias and Pythian Sisters hosted Past Chancellor Commanders Night at the local hall. Grand Chancellor Stewart of Salem Illinois and Grand Secretary Parkinson of Springfield Illinois attended for the Knights. Grand Chief Mrs. Ralph Goekler of Marshall represented the Sisters. Basil Moore and Floyd Sweitzer delivered an entertaining program. Awards recognized Past Chancellor Commander Harlan Thompson and 50 year member S I Jakway.
Edwin C. Daly, of Mrs. Edwin P. Daly, met Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip on May 7 at the dedication of a new wing of London House. Daly, a representative of the United States, praised the Queen’s charm and personal interest in his work and country. Daly is a Fulbright Scholar studying at the University of London.
The Marshall pool committee outlines 1963 plans with a Memorial Day opening. Registration for eight swimming lessons is June 10, lessons run June 17 to 28, cost three dollars per person, and makeups Fridays. A Clark County session runs July 1 to 13 with five lessons weekdays and Saturdays for makeups. Semi private lessons cost two dollars per hour. Synchronized lessons and a water show are planned, with dates to be announced. An historical book memorial for World Wars I and I are proposed for Marshall City Library, supported by the American Legion Auxiliary and Gold Star chairman.
Filing list shows Donald E. Starkey versus Linda Lee Starkey for divorce and Judith MecSchooler a minor by Margaret Kemper as next friend versus Mervin McSchooler for divorce. Court actions open in circuit court with petitions filed.
The final Sabin oral vaccine dose will be given next Sunday June 2 at the high school gym from 1 to 6 PM. This type III vaccine is for all ages over six months and clinics will be held at the Martinsville and Casey high school cafeterias. Local sponsors are Marshall Rotary Club and Clark County Medical Association.

Naomi Casteel Gels died at her Gillette home on May 23 after a long illness. She is survived by her husband F W Dutch, a son Williem Gerald, two daughters Frances Ann Dunn and Mertha Lu Sprigler, and nine grandchildren. She was born to the late Harry and ... Marshall area residents remember her.
The Marshall Community School surveys its 1963 senior class of 100 students. Of graduates, 35 will pursue higher education at varying institutions, 17 plan military service, 24 aim for immediate employment, with specific career intentions listed across teaching, engineering, nursing, business, and trades. The class is praised as outstanding.
John F. Bush of Marshall, a 1959 high school graduate and varsity football and baseball member at Indiana State College, received the Laverne K. McMillan Scholarship on Honor Day. He majors in physical education and minors in mathematics and is the son of Mr and Mrs Charles A Bush of 604 North 26th Street.
