Francis Walker daughter of John and Eliza Walker was born July 14 1870 in York township. She died January 18 1914 at her home in West Union after a long illness aged 43 years 6 months and 6 days. She married Perry M Alexander May 24 1888 and had two children William J and Emma plus a step son Stephen of Salem. She joined Beulah revival and became a full member in the West Union Christian church in 1901 and belonged to the Court of Honor. A lifelong West Union resident she faced illness bravely and cherished her family. Funeral held at the Baptist church Rev T J Wheeler preached from First Corinthians 15 57. Burial at Beulah cemetery. A large crowd paid tribute to her worth.
In Robinee oil field the city limits see steady output with no dull periods. Wells produce ten to fifteen barrels after settling, twenty barrels total by yesterday evening, seventeen drilling, and several sites preparing for early drilling. Three wells were shot yesterday with seven more planned soon. The Houston street well near North Fronidin, two blocks north of West Main, was charged with 140 quarts of saltrd glycerine at 3 p m causing a heavy jar and rattling windows.

The special election in Marshall township resulted in 361 voting for the single highway commissioner system and 87 against. The change, unforeseen by many supporters, now requires an April election for the post. Thirteen women used the newly granted voting privilege to participate.
Examinations completed last Thursday and the second semester begins Friday. Teachers prepared a working schedule and discussed exam questions. Marion N. Beeman, once principal of Marshall High School and city schools superintendent in Dallas City, died last Tuesday evening. Born near Stoy, he lived in Crawford County most of his life, later leading Lewiston schools and serving a term as county superintendent. He studied while teaching, became a State Normal graduate, and was active in the Christian church and ministry. Burial followed in Robinson. He leaves wife Kate Hill and four children, ages about 219 and 14 max.
