Mr and Mrs S I Jakway of 415 North Sixth Street Marshall will observe their golden wedding anniversary next Sunday January 5 at the home of their daughter Mrs Omar Blanker and husband at 413 North Sixth Street.
Paul J Warrick of the Soil Conservation Service will discuss Opportunities in Watershed Development at the Court House in Marshall on January 8 at 7 00 p m. The public meeting covers flood control recreation municipal water supply drainage and related topics. The Mill Creek Watershed steering committee organized it and questions about PL 566 will be answered.
The Clark County Fair Association invites members to a 6 30 p m dinner and 7 p m annual meeting at Marshall high school cafeteria on Wednesday January 8 1964. Officers to be elected and 1964 board reorganization planned with discussion of last year’s fair results.
At the December 17 1963 meeting in Charleston the board chose Mack Strohm of West Union as president for the coming year and John Stanley of Edgar County now residing in Paris township as vice president. Other directors include Oscar Strong Mattoon Ermal Curtis Oakland Charles Marshall Trilla Neoga Ray Brengle Paris and Paul Stefford Paris. The association serves Coles Edgar Cumberland and Clark counties.
Marriage licenses issued for James Sullivan and Carol Curran of Illinois, Gerald McDonnah and Sheryl Pearler of Connecticut and Illinois, Marvin Tryon and Carol Bridges of Indiana, Robert Blick and Fayrene Boyer of Indiana, John Johnson and Ruth Long of Indiana, George Archer and Joyce Penman of Indiana.
The first of ten Farmer Classes will be held Monday January 6 at 7 p m in the Marshall Agricultural room. Teacher Truman Spittler will outline the series and discuss 1964 farm income possibilities. The meetings invite farmers and industry and education reps to discuss farm problems. attendance urged. Russell Macey listed as a patient in Paris Hospital.
The CROP report shows township cash totals, grain values, and a car of corn shipped to Illinois Cereal Mills for $2041.61. Totals include Casey, Westfield, Marshall, Martinsville and others with miscellaneous receipts totaling $294.69 and a $131.72 coin value. A church and ministerial gifts list accompanies the data.
Marshall Masonic Lodge 133 holds a public installation Friday at 7 30 PM in the Masonic Temple. Officers to be installed for the year include John Adams W M Donald Davidson S W Dennis Jones J W William Davison treasurer Elmer Hogegatt secretary Alfred McNary chaplain William Berner S D Gene Pearce J D Gene Burns S S Lloyd Claypool J S Don Claypool marshal Alfred Seldel Myler. Refreshments follow in the lodge basement.
Miss Barbara Malone daughter of Mr and Mrs Theodore Malone Terre Haute wed Edgar Davidson Berner son of Mr and Mrs Edgar Berner Marshall in a single ring ceremony officiated by Rev H V Johnson at their apartment Wednesday December 4 1963 at 8 30 pm Bridesmaid was Mrs Joe Sheeves Best man Gene Burns. Reception followed at 402 Ash St where they will reside Groom will continue trucking while helping on his brother’s farm.
The Marshall Lions finished second at the Charleston Invitational over the holidays after a 78 to 61 loss to Arcola in the final. Leroy Gardner led scoring with 70 points and earned first team honors, while McNary and Shonk made second team. Next home game vs Newton scheduled for Friday night, with JV at 6 30 and varsity at 8 15.

Five new oil wells completed in Clark county last week. Mrs Gus Ritter was struck by a car on Auburn hill west of town, knocked about ten feet. Mr and Mrs Charles Claypool announce the arrival of a baby boy Friday night.
Wednesday of last week at the home of Mr and Mrs Frank Raper in Marshall the marriage of W H Dutcher and Mrs Ola Manhart occurred. Ernest Adams a former Marshall resident was held up robbed and beaten with a revolver at the Enarco filling station in Terre Haute on Monday evening where he was attendant.
Allen Dean aged 72 died at 9 30 p m Friday night at Union Hospital Terre Haute He was a resident southeast of Marshall and was 72 years 2 months and 24 days old.
Harry B E Handy of Marshall has been named manager of the new Ohio Oil Co refinery at Robinson after thirty years with the company. H B Higgins, 73, died at Paris Hospital after being admitted Thursday morning. Marriage licenses list William Elsey and Norma Bennett, James Blankenbeker and Nina Hollenbeck, Richard Ewbank and Rose Chapman, Grendel Staley and Janet Buckner, William Edwards Jr and Fredia Albrecht.
G E D exams will be held in Charleston on January 20 and 21, 1964 starting at 8 30 AM. Tests take place in the testing office Basement Pemberton Hall Eastern Illinois University and will be administered by Dr A Rothschild. Adults in Clark County should contact Myron R Tedrick County Superintendent of Schools by January 15.
Library Club members at Marshall High School include Steve White Danny Richardson John Macey and others shown in rows. The group volunteers in the school library system across the high school junior high and elementary schools coordinating reference materials and on reserve works for teachers and students.

Last Saturday December 28 at the home of Mr and Mrs Harnett Wright in West Union a reception honored their daughter Barbara Anne Wright who married Clay Harmon of Long Beach California on December 21 in La Mirada California. The home was decorated with red mums and daisies and more than a hundred guests attended.
John E. Newell aged 74 died last Sunday at his home Route 5 Marshall. Survived by Mae widow, son Dale of Byron Georgia, daughter Lilian Kirsten of Burbank California, four sisters and one half sister. Funeral Wednesday 2 pm Moore Funeral Home officiated by Rev Claud Walters. Burial Dunlap Cemetery. Graveside for Anthony J Quinn infant son of Fenton and Mrs. Quinn held December 26 at Marshall Cemetery with Rev J Arnold Olsen. survivors include parents two brothers Larry and Douglas and grandmothers Maggie Weaver and Grace Quinn.
Mr and Mrs Walter Magill hosted Christmas with guests including Larry Helman and son from Indianapolis, Joe Bennett and Joan, Henry Helman with Carl Jerry Dawn and Carol Bartley from Terre Haute. George Helman and family, after a year in California, visited Terre Haute relatives Gay Helman Louise Trove James Harris and daughters. Mr Helman transfers to Olin Valley HQ aluminum accounting division of Olin Mathieson Chemical Corp.
Rev and Mrs Hubert Osman announce a son Mark Hubert born December 27 in Remington Indiana weighing 8 lb 3 oz. Paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Ethel Osman of Manchester Ohio. Carl Love and Judge Rippy announce son Greg Allen born December 31 weighing pounds 12 oz. Mother Loretta Davis sister of Mrs Audrey Koutsoumpas of Marshall. William Elledge and Diana Kammacher announce daughter Lynn Michalle born December 28 weighing 6 lb 12 oz.
Miss Alice Morton daughter of Mr and Mrs John Morton of West Union studied library science at Indiana State College and now serves as librarian at New Carlyle High School. Miss Ann Shotts a Marshall High School senior pursues librarian career.
Funeral held for Harry Leon Shotts infant son of James A and Patricia Shotts at First Baptist Church Keokuk with burial in National Cemetery. Born March 19 1962 in Keokuk he died December 13 in St Joseph Hospital. Survived by parents two brothers sister grandparents and many relatives.
