The Clark County Fair Board reports $2 grandstand tape work is now $8 and under construction at the ark site. Plans mention $1500,000 for one day of work. The board discusses fair changes and a superintendent meeting set for March 22.
Rob Marshall Schools on Wednesday night suffered a break in at both North and South side grade schools. A crowbar was used to gain entry and three filing cabinets were pried open. At the South side school a cabinet held cafeteria money and petty cash totaling about 75 to 100 dollars. An office desk drawer at Mrs Adams room was opened and thirty dollars was taken. No other losses were reported.
Charles R Bowles of West Union was arraigned in county court before Judge John M Hollenbeck and sentenced to one year at Vandalia penal farm after pleading guilty to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. James Henry Snearly also pleaded guilty and was fined 100 dollars plus court costs.
Mrs Ruby Gideon 31 of Old York died Tuesday evening at Paris hospital from injuries received in a Monday night car crash nine miles west of Marshall. Also injured were Charles R Bowles 32 of West Union and another occupant when the vehicle reportedly overturned after leaving the pavement.
Five young men have joined the 434th Troop Carrier Wing of the Air Force Reserve. They train at Atterbury Air Force Base near Columbus, Indiana. The new members are Curtis Echer, Russell L. Doi, Donald Doty, Phil K. Haddix, and Carroll L. Litto.

Mr and Mrs Jack Mallory announce a 6 pound 12 ounce girl Amy Louise born February 11 at Union Hospital. Mr and Mrs Joe Murphy announce a son Michael Scott born February 12 at Union Hospital. Mr and Mrs Fred Davidson announce a son Timothy born February 13 at Union Hospital their second son.
A divorce case is filed in circuit court naming Lowell Stricklett and Laura E Stricklett as the parties. The filing marks the start of litigation over dissolution of marriage and related relief.
Martin F. Tingley 79 longtime blacksmith of West Union died Wednesday after being struck by a wheel piece while at work. Coroner Swinford held an inquest Thursday. Survived by widow Margaret two sons Wade and Wayne a daughter Ruth Cook a sister Goldiar McCoy a brother T R Tingley four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral Saturday at 10 in West Union Baptist Church with Rev Bruce Coyle officiating. Burial in Harrison Cemetery.

The Clarksville Birthday Club gathered Thursday afternoon February 11 at Maggie Miller’s home. President Alpha Morgan led the meeting with a singing of America and a Life of Abraham Lincoln roll call. Daisy Wyrick reported on the prior meeting. Maggie Miller supervised recreation. A white elephant sale benefited the club. Refreshments were served to listed members and guests.
The girl Scouts held their regular meeting on February 10 to mark Lincoln birthday by building log cabins from clay and toothpicks.
The Illinois Heart Association seeks public support for heart disease prevention through research education and community service. Mrs Basil Moore chairs the local campaign urging Marshall residents to contribute to the state program to reduce deaths from cardiovascular disease.
Albert E Smith known as Gene, former Marshall Township High School science teacher, is named head of the Electronic Computer Branch at the Bureau of Ships Washington DC. He will oversee Univac computations and assign problems to the computer while advising on computing needs. Gene Smith formerly taught radar during World War II on a Boston Harbor ship and has contributed to a treatise on electronic computers. He is the son of Forest E Smith and Mrs. Smith of route 2, Marshall Township.
A missionary film will be shown at Freedom Church tonight February 19 at 7 30 PM. Refreshments will be served and the general public is invited to attend.
Mrs. Ivan Hornbrook won a $100 garbage disposal prize sponsored by Youngstown Kitchens and awarded by Kalamazoo Home Appliances.
James Swiss formerly of Marshall died at Alton Hospital on February 7 aged 99. He is survived by relatives and was a longtime resident noted in the Marshall area. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Joy Barrett commander delivers four flags to Robert Maurer president of the Marshall Board of Education for use in Marshall Community Unit Schools. The ceremony honors veterans and supports school patriotic programs.
