Commerct Chief and Mr Ninamsker from Caney traveled to Collinsville and back with boys and a car. They were bound over to the grand jury and are now at Clark County jail taking meals, likely reflecting on their foolish act.
Temple No 326 Pythian Sitters held their regular meeting at 7 30 with district deputy Goekler in attendance. Chief Sher gave instructions and refreshments were served after the session.
Oscar Sloan of Clark County was re elected to the Norris Electric Co operative board at its sixteenth annual meeting held last Saturday at Newton High School. Clay Trimble and Lawrence Britton were elected to officer posts with Trimble repeating as president and Joe Crews as vice president. More than 1500 people from eight counties attended, with safety demonstrations and prize distributions marking the day. World Day of Prayer events are set for March 8 at Emmanuel U B Church with a noon covered dish luncheon and an afternoon session led by Mrs. E C Kince and guest speaker Mrs. B C Stine of Mattoon.
A community meeting is set for Friday at Washington school with pot luck refreshments. Charles P Elledge, son of Mr and Mrs J H Elledge of Route 2 Marshall, has enlisted in the Air Force for four years and is in basic training at Geneva New York after graduating from Marshall High School in 1953.
A local program at the Anerees Auxi post birthday event featured a sacred concert last Sunday night at the Martinsville Methodist Church.
The 1954 Red Cross drive runs March 27 and 28 with church and radio programs nationwide promoting volunteer service and donations. Eisenhower’s words underscore a mission of people helping neighbors across the nation and world, with thousands of volunteers and a goal of 30 million members and 85 million dollars.
Kappa Sigma Tau sorority held its regular social gathering with a travel and rush party. They met at Mrs Mary Eillen Koutsompas home then served a pancake supper at the Scout Cabin before returning to hostess Mrs Mildred Wilfond. A brief one meeting was led by president Mrs Kertha Edwards. The First Church recently moved to its new church at 614 Pine Street after purchasing the building months ago, completing remodeling and decoration for the move. Witnesses note the updated space reflects careful planning and community effort.

Theodore Kallas a Marshall high school chemistry teacher joined peers at the Wabash Valley section American Chemical Society symposium held at Rose Polytechnic Institute in Terre Haute on February 20. Teachers from Illinois and Indiana attended to spur interest in a field with strong job opportunities. Leland E. Lane of Illinois Cereal Mills formerly of Paria high school was on the program.

Mr and Mrs Charles Benny welcome a baby boy born Tuesday. Chas Shipe resigns as deputy circuit clerk to become a traveling salesman for a hardware firm. Alma Shipe now works in the circuit clerk’s office. Helen, five weeks old, died after four days. Grace Slusser wed Samuel N Smith of Avona Ill February 27 at noon. A W Mills officiated with about twenty five relatives. Wood piles grow as winter ends. Marian Eden and wife welcome a baby girl born Saturday. A large spelling school at Hatton Friday night features Bella Pine seven and Harry Tharpe one showing notable skill amid older participants.
Marriage licenses issued in February 1914 include James Thompson of Auburn township and Alma Gertrude Mallory of Anderson township, with other recent licenses listed for Westfield and Martinsville. William Pine hauled a $5000 hog shipment to the city in 32 wagons. Mrs Amos Murphy of West Union celebrated a 7th wedding anniversary with a surprise at the Christian church. Isabel Drake died at 81, survived by three children, with interment in Brick cemetery.
Thomas M Sallee 86 longtime Martinsville State Bank president died at his Martinsville residence. The former leader retired two years ago. Local items note a car accident, marriages licenses issued to Dari Devin and Margaret Lindley, and community visits from Mrs Clark S Thomas. A baby boy announced by Mr and Mrs Robert Prewett.
Twenty years ago to Mr and Mrs Will Perisho a son was born in the east part of Marshall. Frank Lake aged 78 of Marshall died January 15 after a long illness and was buried in Marshall cemetery. Prof Otis Keeler and wife leave for Cleveland to attend four days of National Education Association sessions and hope to visit Niagara Falls. Thomas McClure of 607 North Eighth Street Marshall dies suddenly Sunday night after a heart attack. He was in real estate and oil, survived by wife Irene, daughter Jane Muir of Los Angeles, son Thomas Jr of Philadelphia, and brothers Charles of Maywood Illinois and John of Whiting Iowa. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Alex Porteus, burial in Marshall cemetery.
The Clark County Fair Board voted to keep the water tank at the city light plant and charge a $1.00 usage fee to help cover upkeep. They also approved leaving a waiver form for signers to relieve the board of accident liability. The board plans to organize the Fair Book early and adjust premiums as needed, with next meeting set for March 22 at 7:30 p.m.
Chester L. Cooper Jr aged 22 of Terre Haute and Sue Lance aged 16 of Marshall obtained a marriage license.

Ten years ago in 1944 Mr and Mrs Fred Liggett former Wabash township residents marked their golden wedding with an open house in Terre Haute on Sunday February 20. Also noted Mrs Myrtle Wallace returned from her daughter’s home and will stay with Mrs Sylvia Sweet. Burial plans followed for John Fox formerly of Marshall now in Greenup. Deaths included Lena Salter at 77 buried Zion cemetery. Marriage license issued Olive Avery Franklin 18 and Davy Ethel Dunagan 16 West Union. Joan Brosman Marshall resident to graduate Indiana State Teachers College Terre Haute.
Barbara English a 16 year old New Trier High School junior wins a Packard sponsored musical award on the Ask the Man TV show. She will return as musical guest on channel 7 and received a trophy and 500 dollars.
Mrs Cole of Spokane wife of Aaron P Cole and daughter of Albert and Virginia Shaw Drake. survived by daughter Mary Cole Yeomans and grandchildren. Funeral in Spokane Monday at 4 p.m. Also Sarah Brown 85 widow of Edgar Brown, Marshall route 1, with four daughters and brother John Schad of Los Angeles. Services Tuesday 2 p.m. Trinity E U B Church.
