Civil Air Patrol activations bolster Clark County defense

Casey Illinois area activated CAP squadron with headquarters in Casey to coordinate emergency air support for Marshall and Clark County. Dram Shop Case Trials Begin For Marshall Accident

A dram shop suit the Haddix Koppler vs Morgan et al. over Elsie Clatfelter’s February 1953 Archer avenue death is in trial. Jury chosen Tuesday and Wednesday included Ester Wright and Bruce Updegraff among others. Evidence for the plaintiffs closed Wednesday. defendants’ evidence began Thursday. The case concerns damages from a car strike in Marshall on February 27, 1953 involving John Britain of Paris and companions.

Tingley Home Burned Near Zion Church

World Day of Prayer Observance At Marshall Methodist

Two Marshall youths join the 434th Troop Carrier Wing

Airman Basic Charles H. Shotts son of Mr. and Mrs. Ferry Shotts and Airman Basic Leroy Butcher son of Mr. and Mrs. George P. Scotsman Speaks at Rotary Meeting in Dundee

William Steele of Dundee spoke at the Rotary Club meeting describing his role as an exchange teacher in Scotland. Social Security Service Expands in Clark County

The Social Security Administration will boost service in Marshall and Clark counties starting February 16, operating at the Clark County Courthouse on the first and third Wednesdays each month from 1:00 p.m. More than 800 residents in Clark County receive benefits monthly, with federal law changes in 1955 broadening coverage to self employed farmers.

Golden Wedding Celebrated Sunday by Mr. and Mrs. Lickert

Mr and Mrs Wm Lickert marked their 50th wedding anniversary at 69 W Archer Ave with a small gathering from 2 to 4 pm. Relatives and neighbors attended as floral arrangements in gold themed rooms and a three tier cake showcased the milestone. Their daughter Mrs Eugene Ullmeyer of Rock Island welcomed guests and granddaughter Jane served. Refreshments of cake and ice cream were served. Health concerns kept open house from being held.

Serious vehicle collision injures Marshall couple

Billy Davison son of Mr and Mrs Ross Davison of Marshall and a Patoka school teacher was injured in a Thursday evening crash on US 40 between Greenup and Effingham due to icy pavement. He suffered a broken leg an injured shoulder and a concussion and was taken to Effingham hospital. The other car carried a man his wife and a 3 year old boy the woman was also seriously injured. Billy was reported to be improving.

Community meeting hosted by Marshall Chamber at high school

The Marshall Chamber of Commerce sponsors a community meeting at Marshall High School cafeteria next Monday February 21 with dinner at 6 30. Red Cross Set for County Meeting February 24

The Clark County Red Cross invites all residents to attend the county chapter annual meeting Thursday February 24 at 7 30 p m in the American Legion auditorium Martinsville. Home nursing certificates will be issued to graduates of the county course. Leo Mize ARC field representative and local officers will discuss Red Cross activities and community service value.
