County 4H Leaders Receive Training In Marshall

Twenty one Clark County 4-H leaders from sixteen clubs met January 27 in the Marshall post office basement for organization information and supplies. Home Adviser Ella J. Fikuart said it was the largest turnout for the year. Leaders learned how to organize and operate clubs, with junior leadership opportunities highlighted for girls aged 10 to 21. Clubs planned to organize by late March and all by March 26, with many names listed among Marshall and Casey area groups.

Terre Haute Man Leases Drake Locker Plant

Rhoades Barbarick of Terre Haute has leased the Drake Frozen Food Locker Plant at 405 South Eighth Street Marshall and took possession this week. He is a meat cutter with grocery and frozen foods experience. wife works in Terre Haute. two sons and one daughter. one son leaving Marines, daughter may join the Waves, other son still in school. Mrs Barbarick will stay employed in Terre Haute. mother will assist at the locker. Mr and Mrs Drake have interests in Florida and plan to go there later.

Circuit Court Hears Last Monday Sessions in Marshall

Judge Robert Cotton presided in Marshall for a circuit court session. The case Virginia Butcher vs Will Koutsoumpas was dismissed as action settled. Marshall Co op Association vs Ed Drake to collect debt was also dismissed for settlement.

Marshall teen nets district win in 4-H corn contest

Gerald Robinson of Marshall was named district 4 winner in the third annual 4-H Xtra Yield Corn Contest, judged on yield cost and quality. The event, sponsored by the Illinois Extension Service, University of Illinois and Illinois Farm Supply Co, drew about 200 at the Illini Union ballroom with 22 eastern central Illinois counties represented. Robinson posted 90.9 bushels per acre, $50.49 per acre, quality 85, totaling 72.6 points.

Marshall Lions Club Rabbit Fry Supports Pool Project

The Marshall Lions Club hosted a rabbit fry at the Youth Center, Clark County Fairgrounds, on Wednesday night February 2. M. E. Hageler spoke on swimming pool construction. About $275 was raised for a swimming pool building fund run by Russell Junker. Next Lions Club benefit will be the second annual Pancake dinner during Shrove Sunday.

Guernsey Breeders Hold Annual Meeting in Martinsville

The 15th annual Guernsey Breeders Association meeting was held at the Farm Bureau office in Martinsville with eighteen members present. Officers were re-elected: President Bill Walker, Vice President Max Stephen, Secretary and Treasurer Fred Richey. The 1955 Parish show will be at Olney on June 27, and a type school will be hosted at Jay T Yeley farm north of Marshall. George Campbell spoke on sales production for Guernsey Gold, followed by Max Dandy of the American Guernsey Club discussing milk production delinquent cattle and classification.

Gas station operator Ralph George rushed to hospital

Ralph George who runs a gas station and grocery at the corner of Second Street and Archer Ave in Marshall suffered a heart attack Monday and was taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Terre Haute. His room number is 285.

Old Stony Point Church Remembered in Osage County Memory

Mrs. Dollie Hollenbeck of Marshall recalls the Old Stony Point Church near Byers Osage County Missouri built years ago and used by several denominations before 1855 when deeded to Methodists. Slaves were sold near its platform. later sold to Mr Hollenbeck and partitioned into a dwelling in 1894.
