Township conventions nominate candidates across townships

Last week parties held conventions in multiple townships to nominate candidates for local offices. In Auburn township Dale Veach was chosen for supervisor, Pine township kept the incumbent road commissioner, and York township nominated Paul Crumlin for supervisor.

Not Guilty Verdict In Dram Shop Case Returns

The jury found all defendants guilty as to both plaintiffs in the dram shop act damages case of Ronald Haddix and Guinevere Koppler v Ruth Morgan and others. Three people were injured in a Derby hill collision near Motel on U S 140. Mrs Goekler suffered broken ribs and injuries. Elaine Goekler had a chin cut. a Renner girl sustained a fractured ankle and facial injuries.

Son of Darwin Man To Arrive In New York Feb 25

Carrol A Tingley son of Mr and Mrs Raymond Tingley of Darwin is set to arrive in New York around February 25 aboard the U S N 8 General Callan returning home from Scotland after two and a half years overseas in the U S Air Force in Africa England and Scotland.

Charles Altmeyer of Marshall, serving in Korea, was asked if he was getting enough meals. He answered there is plenty and an abundance of good food available.

Left leg broken after colt accident at Marshall farm

Joe Stubbs, 65, caring for Frank Gunder’s horses at Marshall, was thrown from a colt Wednesday and broke his left leg above the knee. He was taken to Union Hospital Terre Haute. Also notes on Harry Johnson’s recovery after surgery in Terre Haute, M. H. Matteson’s return from hospital, Mrs. Margaret Kallansa’s 98th birthday March 4, and the death of Vern Forsythe in Gary, a former Marshal resident.

Rotary District Convention to Feature Dr McCallister Speaker

The Decatur Rotary District Convention on March 6 and 7 will include Dr Raymond McCallister as a keynote speaker. He hosts religious broadcasts on K8SD and KSD-TV in St Louis and has served on multiple nonprofits and boards.

Suit for Damages in Circuit Court in Marshall

Judge Spivey opened circuit court in Marshall for a damages case filed by Frank Smith on behalf of Roger Smith a minor against Sugar Creek Creamery Company. New York Central Time Change Delays Egyptian Train

The Egyptian train now leaves Harrisburg at 8 50 p.m and runs earlier between Harrisburg and Danville. It arrives in Chicago about 7 106 a.m and reaches Marshall at 12 40 a.m. instead of 12 52 a.m. The southbound Egyptian arrives in Marshall at 4 44 a.m instead of 4 42 a.m.

Edith Glenn Fisher aged 88 died Saturday at Union Hospital Terre Haute Indiana. Survived by three sons Raymond Fisher Harold Glen Fisher Mar. Fisher of Marshall Vincennes and three sisters Grace Robinson Indianapolis and Ethel Lewis Vincennes burial at Marshall Cemetery. Alonzo Walls aged 78 died at his Darwin Township home Saturday night. Survived by Minnie wife two daughters Nellie Hilbert Fast Point Florida and Clara Jeffers Marshall three sisters Jennie Hacker Rose Hill Kansas Lillian Burkybile Marshall Illinois Lavinia Saiter West Union Illinois plus three grandsons six great grandchildren. Meyer Furnace holds two day service school for cooling

Meyer officials predict a big year for residential cooling installations and stress thorough cooling service behind each job. The firm, founded in 1866 with plants at Peoria and Peru, emphasizes integrating cooling units with heating ductwork.

Baptist Revival Set for February 28 to March 13

Evacuation Roles Reported From Tachens Islands

Jack L. Kraemer, grandson of Mrs. E. L. Kraemer of Marshall, writes of patrol work during the Tachens Islands evacuation. He recounts his crew’s route to Okinawa to fetch the Admiral of the 7th Fleet, then Manila for a few days, with half the fleet going to Hong Kong while he joined the other half. He notes his mail was not censored.
