W W Ralston, agent of the Pennsylvania railroad, and Morris Logue deserve credit for providing cinders to restore entry to Marshall from the Charleston road during bad road days. Three cars of cinders revived traffic but paving requires shifting the road to township as a state aid or bonding plan costing 12 000 to 15 000 dollars for 18 foot pavement. Officials doubt a quick solution but insist a method is needed.
An overcoat belonging to J. S. Mundy was stolen Saturday night from M Jennings cleaning and pressing establishment over the Liberty Variety Store. A back window was forced, muddy footprints showed the thief walked across a freshly painted floor, and a locked desk drawer held $8 to $10 while a sack of cookies vanished. The same night Machlan's Garage back door was tampered with.
Walter White of Paris driving a Hudson touring car collided with Harry Marvin of West Union at West Union Monday evening. White was stopped in Marshall by Sheriff Harry Coldren and held to pay Marvin damages totaling 13 dollars.
Marshall Lodge No. 133 AF and A M will hold a school of instruction on February 15, February 22, March 1 and March 8 in the evenings. On February 16 the F C degree will be conferred.

The Marshall Chamber of Commerce Band presents a concert at the Pythian Theatre next Thursday evening as the second part of the regular program. The show opens with The Whole Town's Talking. Then the band performs marches, overtures, vocal solos, duets, intermezzos, and novelty pieces including Pride of the USA Overture Martha Bells of St Marys Adeste Fideles Gavotte Columbia On the Suwanee River Patriot Good Bye Good Luck and Star Spangled Banner with popular encores.
Petitions for the Business Men's ticket for the city election on April 19 have been filed naming John Mc Cauley for mayor John W Brandenstein for Work Fred B Keifer for treasurer Frank Machlan for alderman first ward D E Sowers for alderman second ward and Charles Metz for alderman third ward.
Fenton Fraker operates a rock crusher on the Harry Stover farm at Livingston. The crusher is pulled by a Case tractor owned by local agent Raymond Sockler. Fraker plans to crush limestone to supply farmers with fertilizer until spring field work resumes.
Miss Mahala Forsythe and John Lewis were married February 2 at the groom’s aunt’s Terre Haute home. Both graduates of Marshall High School, John studied at the University of Minnesota and is with his father in the Marshall post office. Mahala worked at Hesperian Beauty Shoppe in Terre Haute. The couple plan to make their home in Wyoming after a brief wedding trip.
Gilman Noyes aged 86 died at the Old Soldier's Home in Danville Tuesday morning at 7 30 The body was moved to Marshall for funeral services at the Christian church Wednesday at 10 Rev R C Mowery officiating Burial followed at Dudley Missouri He is survived by two sons Ross of Marshall and Frank of Martinsville and one daughter Mrs W S Roberts of Marshall
Policeman J. W. Wallace held two men at the Feigen junk shop on suspicion after they tried to sell about 60 pounds of copper and brass. The suspects claimed Rock Island and Flint addresses and admitted picking the goods at a Pennsylvania station. Chief Detectives Captain Lauderbeck advised release with warnings to stay off the Pennsylvania railroad right of way and leave Marshall.
About forty boys and girls joined the Junior Band organized by Prof. Harold Bright. Music has arrived for distribution. Officers elected at the first meeting include Wilbur Clark as president Harold Bright as vice president and leader Miss Etta Mac Mitchell as secretary treasurer and an executive committee of Jacob Miller Albert Imle Harold Stover Rae Forsythe and Gene Spotts.
In the Winter Issue of the Methodist Men the Area Men's Council at Chicago Temple in April backed stronger efforts to engage men in church programs. A permanent 15 member commission on men's work was proposed to Bishop Hughes, led by Marshall judge H R Snavely. The group meets often and began by recruiting BE Bancroft of Ohio to aid Chicago area efforts. Bancroft will speak at the Marshall Methodist church Sunday evening for the Men's Brotherhood.
Bert Robinson named to succeed Ovie Draper as clerk of Darwin township for the remainder of the term about one year. Draper resigns to move to Terre Haute, Indiana.
Stanley Siverly, brother to Louis Siverly of Marshall Auto Sales, has leased the Johnson filling station at the corner of Fourth and Main streets. He took possession Friday morning.
D. M. Bailes of Los Angeles was arrested by Policeman J. W. Wallace on a charge of violating the speed ordinance. He was fined $5 and costs in Squire Tom Craig's court.

New circuit court cases include Prust vs American Railway Express, Cole vs Fearce foreclosure, Reeds vs Reeds divorce, Bennet divorce, Tapscott et al parition.
The Paris Daily News reports the wedding of Miss Mary Catherine Fee of Terre Haute to Lyman Booth eldest son of Mr and Mrs Truman Booth of Marshall will be solemnized in May in a ceremony announced by the newspaper.
Springfield officials announced dates for five of Illinois State Association fairs for 1927. Clark County at Martinsville runs August 20 to 27 with Oscar Shawver as secretary. Coles County at Charleston hosts August 24 to 27 under W C Glasco. Cumberland County at Greenup August 22 to 27 with Fred Wylde as secretary. Edgar County at Paris August 15 to 20 led by A C Hale.
Paris Daily News lauds Mush McGowan a former Marshall boy for his standout performance in the Nine O Clock Revue in Paris last Wednesday. The report notes his stage presence and comedic timing drew laughs in every scene he joined.

People of Chas H Applegate pleaded guilty to assault and battery and disturbing the peace and fined $15 per count and committed to jail until fines paid. People of Ben Cook bailed $1509 for prohibited liquor sale.

Notes from the Oil and Gas Journal report a steel tank added to a wildcat well on the John Hunt farm in Sullivan County Indiana after an initial 80 barrel first day, with oil at about 2100 feet and water at 2176 feet. The well shows 473 gravity crude, but forecasts suggest it may settle to around 20 barrels daily. several nearby wells are also being started in Clark and Johnson townships.
Friday evening Fred B. Keifer read in The Herald about the play Lady of Lyons performed by the Marshall graduating class of 1907. While he recalled the characters, Mrs. Keifer heard on radio station WGY Schenectady New York the same play Lady of Lyons being broadcast.

The Senate approved House Bill No. 15649 to eradicate the corn sorer in certain corn belt states. It provides a $10,090,000 appropriation for the Agriculture Secretary to work with states to prevent spread of the pest, with no recorded vote or dissent.
