The Marshall Lions Club held an essay contest on Peace is Attainable with 21 submissions judged by three judges. John Allen won the top prize, a $25 saving bond, after his essay was read at a Lions Club meeting.
The Marshall Jaycees announce two new efforts led by president Lewis O'Dell. A yearly scholarship will aid a Marshall area high school senior or trade school student, with plans to help them return to the community. Also approved is an Underprivileged Children's Camp Week proposed by Ray Davidson to fund a week at a church or Boy Scout camp for a local child, potentially starting this summer.
Township and area chairmen appointed for the 1967 Heart Fund drive include Mrs. Arnold Macke, Mrs. Harnett Wright, Mrs. Joe Kemp, Mrs. Bobby Bartley, Mrs. John Eggleston, Mrs. Ray Farris, Mrs. Raymond Reedy, Mrs. Fred Burger, Mrs. Wm. Pickens, Mrs. Dale Veach, Perry Williams, Francis Staub, William Newport, Woodford Williams, John Douglas, Robert Maurer, and Robert Guinnip. The drive peaks February 26 with volunteers delivering information and collecting contributions.
Mrs. Jennie Wilhoit of Casey turned 80 on January 29. A family dinner at son Darrel Wilhoit’s Collinsville home honored her with relatives and neighbors. She received gifts including an orchid from daughters in San Diego and was celebrated at Oak Christian Church services. She lives in Casey Nursing Home and invites visits, cards, and letters.
Marshall Public Library trustees and civic groups discuss new quarters and a nonprofit Friends of the Library to manage the building while rent funds maintenance. Officers named include Basil Moore president and Dr Frank Mitchell vice president with Fred Hayes secretary and Drew Casteel treasurer.
Paul Murphy 51 of Route 4 West Terre Haute died Friday at 7 00 p m at his residence He is survived by his widow Ruby three sons Paul Richard Terre Haute Edward and Gary both at home two daughters Mrs Donna Stevenson Rosedale Indiana and Kelly at home the parents Mr and Mrs Jesse Murphy West Union one brother Robert Lincoln Illinois one sister Mrs Eva Haskett Denver Colorado and five grandchildren Requiem Mass was held at 10 00 a m Monday at St Leonard s Church West Terre Haute with burial in York Cemetery near West Union The rosary was recited at 7 00 p m at Prust Hirosch Funeral Chapel Sunday

Miss Mahala Forsythe daughter of Mr and Mrs Norman Forsythe of Marshall and John Lewis son of Mr and Mrs John W Lewis of Marshall were united in marriage on February 2. A marriage license was issued in Jasper. The ceremony also lists Beveriale Casey and Faye Howe as involved in the local notice.
Thirty years ago in 1937 marriage licences were issued to Harry Cham berlin and Genevieve Brown both of Dennison plus Demo Nidey and Edith Beasley of Martinsville and Levin Kelley with Thelma Connelly of Martinsville. Mr and Mrs Nelson Smith announce the birth of daughter Sandra Cleire born Monday February 8. J F McCormick recalls attending high school at Tower Hill in 1875 and notes that Thomas Filer, grandfather of D Biler a Marshall schools teacher, was his teacher.
Twenty years ago in Marshall area records three marriages two in Dennison and Oliver, births include a son for Mr and Mrs Pennington and a daughter for Mr and Mrs Hurt. Weddings noted include Miss Beverly Jean Lee to Ray Allen Welsh and Louise White Marrs to Kenneth Bridwell. Wabash River flooding prompts farm evacuations.
Members convened February 1 at 7 00 a m at Raymond's Cafe with President Quick presiding. Dues to the Illinois State Chamber were paid. The group discussed a federal offices building Clark County Metal Products addition and a proposed take project.
Postmaster General Lawrence F. O'Brien announces a contract awarded to Mr. and Mrs. Dale K. Bishop of Greenup Illinois to build the new Martinsville Illinois post office at Main and York Streets and lease it to the Postoffice Department. The 26830 square foot facility costs an estimated 49500 with 4260 square feet for vehicle movement. Completion is targeted for around January 25 1968 with annual rent of 5400.
The Marshall high school Lion Concert Band and the junior high Ram Concert Bands perform their annual winter concert this Sunday February 12 in the boys gym at the high school starting at 2 30 p m. The 99 piece high school band plays Overture from the Student Prince selections from The Music Man The Four Freedoms march and Overture Internationale. The junior high band of 51 members performs When You Wish Upon a Star Bendemmer s Stream and Jubilee among others. The groups have been active this fall and winter at pep sessions and basketball games and are expected to deliver a strong performance.
The Illinois Hairdresser's Association unit met February 6 at Technique School of Beauty Culture. Carl Beard demonstrated the Diamond Trend cut and finish. Attendees included Judi Van der Vingt Rocky Fox Eva Farley Thelma Spittler Agnes Miller Claudia Edwards Louisa Montgomery and others from Paris Martinsville Casey and Marshall with guests from Redman Kansas and nearby towns. Mrs Allian Drummond visited Paris relatives.
The Marshall Community Schools PTA sponsors an adult mathematics class taught by Robert Morris of Marshall High School. The program runs two evenings weekly, Monday and Tuesday, with 68 adults enrolled. Mary Frances Harper leads PTA registration efforts with Dale Davis coordinating outreach.
FTC defines hosiery quality terms seconds and irregulars as distinct. Seconds are damaged not meeting first quality or irregular standards. irregulars have minor flaws but are not damaged. Also announces March and April sewing classes on slack and short making in Clark county with free enrollment.
Milo Prust of West Union was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when a tree fell on him at his home. He suffered a head injury and a compound fracture of a leg and was taken to Union Hospital in Terre Haute for treatment.

Marshall Junior High School begins two district tournaments with lightweight and heavyweight squads. Lightweights face Martinsville Saturday afternoon and finish February 13 while heavyweights meet Toledo in Casey February 17 with finals February 20. Coaches Bailey and Walters report strong records after twenty games.
