The Methodist Church notes a Christmas cantata The Messiah's Advent by the choir led by Mr James Colgrove last Sunday evening offered a great inspirational treat. Choir members include Miss Mena Hendricks Alice Keener Ada Brandenstine Mrs Don Winterrowd Jas Colgrove HAR Snavely Harold Bright C Carroll Burns Smith Ora Hunter. The pastor and wife extend sincere Christmas greetings and blessings for the New Year to all. Revival begins next week with Rev C M Duncan of Arcola preaching each evening at 7 15 and all are invited to attend. Services next Sunday feature morning and evening worship with special music. The M H church hosted a Monday night gathering for boys and their guests. Over a hundred attendees enjoyed football and baseball games, a cracker contest, music, a talk by Prof Harold Bright, and a concluding spread of refreshments. The Boy Scouts joined the event in full.
Charles Colvin of West Union, released from jail a little over a week ago for assaulting his mother, is again in custody. He reportedly obtained liquor on Saturday and caused a neighborhood disturbance before Sheriff Wallace took him into custody.

Rumors say the Cairo Division will see radical changes with Big Four trains routed via Vincennes making it a main line station for north and south passenger service. A traffic pact with B&O S W would use ten miles of B&O track between Vincennes and Lawrenceville, abandoning passenger runs between Lawrenceville and St Francisville while keeping freight service on that ten mile segment.
A report alleges the county clerk candidate Martin submitted a misleading record at a board meeting. It claims Dunne moved to place the filing on record while the committee previously rejected the report and cites a $5661 debt and a $1060 appropriation linked to Martin's prosecution.

The County Officers Reports committee of the Board of Supervisors met Monday and drew the $1000 appropriation for the prosecution of the case against W. W. T. Martin and employed Everett Connelly and Arthur Poorman to lead the effort.
There was no Sunday school last Sunday due to an accident to the furnace. All are urged to be present next Sunday and bring offerings for the Orphans' Home.
A Good Roads train tour organized with the U S Department of Agriculture and Illinois State Highway Department will stop at the Big Four station in Marshall on Wednesday January 6 from 11 00 am to 6 00 pm. Engineers will lecture at 1 30 pm in the Pythian Theater on road construction methods with three exhibit cars open for visitors. The event is free and aims to educate officials and citizens on improving highways.
The Daughters of the Revolution will rear a municipal Christmas tree on the northeast corner of the public square and decorate it with electric lights. A children’s treat funded by a community fund will be distributed. The Marshall Band performs at 7 00 p m with male chorus carols, Santa, and Boy Scouts guiding children from the courthouse to the tree, followed by 8 00 p m carols as well. Citizens are urged to turn on all lights 6 00 to 7 00 p m and keep blinds up to flood the streets with light.
The Hobson resolution to submit a constitutional amendment for national prohibition failed in the National House with 197 to 189 in favor against. A two thirds vote was required. Mann proposed an absolute prohibition amendment which was defeated 209 to 77 on a rising vote. Congressman O Hais backed the Hobson bill.
Dr Behner veterinary surgeon reports corn stalk fungus disease killing livestock in Clark county. Over twenty head of cattle and several horses and a thoroughbred Holstein bull have died. Losses include Thomas Haddix two cattle Will Gard three cattle David Spittler one steer Otto Tabeneck Willard Drake Lou Alexander J W Good Mart Greenwell Mr Jackson and Mr Laimbdin each losing one horse.

Cary Marvin, prominent Clark County citizen, died at his West Union home last Wednesday after a brief stomach illness. He served in the Civil War, twice wounded, a prisoner at Andersonville, and the first to plant the Union flag on Missionary Ridge. Funeral services were in the Friends church with Masonic honors. interment at Beulah cemetery. He leaves a wife Hannah, three children, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and brothers.
Real estate transfers recorded show multiple deeds. Transfers include W 4H Taggart to Frank Partlow for land in section 19 9 14 valued at 1000 dollars and Eva Kraemer to Wm McKenzie in Marshall for 59 block Dulaney’s addition at 400 dollars.

Mrs Alice Covert wife of Frederick Covert died last Saturday evening after a long illness from consumption. She was 46 years old and survived by her husband two daughters one sister and two brothers. Funeral services were held Monday at the family residence conducted by Rev D D Burt and interment followed at the city cemetery.
The county clerk announced an increase in tax levies for Marshall Township and the Tate rate will be 8.85 dollars per 100. This amounts to an 83 cent rise over last year.
T. W. Shipe sold and delivered two new Paige touring cars to Martinsville citizens this week.
The M. T. H. S. notes report school closing for holiday vacation with classes resuming Monday January 4 1915. Teachers plan to spend vacation at home. a country school style literary event occurred on the last day before Christmas. Hutsonville defeated local boys 14 9 in basketball. sewing class exhibits drew praise and will be shown again later in the year.
Terre Haute police chief Edward Holler was jailed for 30 days for contempt of court after a raid on acting prosecutor Chalmers Hamill to obtain documentary evidence in an election fraud case involving Doni M. Roberts. He also faces a $100 fine and about $50 in costs.

Evangelical Association announces Christmas Day preaching at 1 30 a m at our Marshall church corner 10th and Plum streets. Protracted meeting at Zion Big Creek starts Sunday evening and runs several weeks. Services at 7 30 p m except Dec 31 when starting at 9 p m and continuing to the new year. Annual business meeting also held that evening. Pastor Leo J Ehrhardt urges attendance.
