Raymond Holston a boy near Vandalia station received a 22 Cal rifle as a Christmas gift and tragically shot his sister Hazel in the shoulder before night, a severe wound.
Prince the driving horse of Hector Dulaney, known to many in town, died Monday night aged between 38 and 40 years. It is believed to be the oldest horse in the county.

Royal AY reports the death yesterday afternoon of an elderly man named Nott aged 16 from paralysis. He was a former soldier in a Missouri regiment and died at his daughter Mrs. A F Simmons home at Eleventh and Locust streets. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM tomorrow.

Burglars broke into the C H and D railway office at Casey Monday night. Little money was secured but many office records were destroyed. Witchard Paddock of Terre Haute spent Christmas with relatives in Casey.
The Red Men lodge will hold a box supper on January 4 in Red Men hall to benefit the degree team. The public is invited and entertainment with music is planned.
Thieves broke open a freight car at Vandalia station yesterday morning and stole 75 pounds of flour two boxes of tobacco and several cans of syrup. The incident is under investigation with no arrests reported yet.
The Congregational Church invites all members to attend Sunday 10:45 service with a sermon on Life or Living and an evening talk on New Year’s Resolutions Worth While. A week of eight Parlor services follows to deepen life appreciation, with neighborhood meetings starting promptly at 7:30 each night at specified homes and soloists featured.

The government has raised quarantine on hogs and cattle from southern Illinois and Clark County, permitting stock shipments to St Louis for Chicago slaughter. Ed Duzan of Oakland visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Duzan, on Monday. Baptist Church services will be held next Sunday at 11:09 by Rev. I S Hicks. Everyone invited to hear him.
