Clarksville Birthday Club Meeting and New Officers

The Clarksville Birthday Club gathered at Clarine Hornbrook home for a pot-luck lunch. New officers were elected for the coming year and a quilt from Eugene Buckner family was presented. Three new members welcomed. next meeting set with Maggie Miller on January 22.

Divorce Granted in Circuit Court in Marshall

Judge John F. Spivey presided as Jean Thompson was granted a divorce from Joe D. Thompson on grounds of extreme and repeated cruelty. Custody of their minor children awarded to Thompson with rights of friendly visitation by the father. Defendant ordered to pay 40 per month for the child and 100 attorney fees plus other costs of suit.

Former West Union Resident Suffers Accident

Mrs. Leonard L. Smith of 711 Yellowstone Ave Billings Montana suffered a fall at home and broke her hip. She is a surgical patient at Billings Hospital and the daughter of the late William and Hattie Collier long time West Union residents. Rev Jesse Dunn Speaks at Clark County Home Bureau Tea

Rev Jesse Dunn pastor of the Christian Church in Casey spoke on Mental Health at the Clark County Home Bureau Tea at the Methodist Church Casey. He urged wise use of cautions and health resources while highlighting rehab programs. First vice-president Mrs Carrie Miller presided and honored units with dues paid and new members since May 1955.

Midnight Service at Congregational Church Marks 20th Year

The Congregational church will host its twentieth Midnight Service on Christmas Eve at 11 15 pm. Lt Donald W Smitley stationed at Fort Devens Massachusetts will be soloist singing Schubert Ave Maria and I Wonder as I Wander. Three choirs will perform the choral service and Rev Louis L Miller leads the liturgy with a five minute Christmas greeting in place of a sermon.

Freshman Stage Talent Shines at MacMurray College

Miss Stephanie Lee Miller daughter of Mr and Mrs Herman Miller of 415 North 7th St participated in the traditional Freshman one act play contest at MacMurray College Jacksonville on December 9 10 in the cast of Thirty Minutes in a Street by Beatrice Mayor presented by the Delta Theta Nu Society. Miller a freshman Kindergarten Primary Education major is a graduate of Marshall High School and a member of the Madrigal Choir and the MacMurray College Band.

West Union Unit Hosts Christmas Party at Strohm Home

The West Union Home Bureau unit held a December 8 Christmas party at the newly finished home of Mr. and Mrs. Max Strohm with 22 members and two guests. Mrs. Gideon Dehli assisted, Mrs. Harry Wright spoke on A Spirit of Christmas, and the group sang carols led by Mrs. Harry Craig. Major lesson on Contents of your House Cost and Replacement was given by Mrs. John Morton with Mrs. Euleta Wernz. A social hour and gift exchange followed, ending with a buffet luncheon in Italian Outwork linen. Marjorie Luckey and Richard Luckey filed a praecipe for divorce.

New District Executive Named for Wabash Valley Council

Homer Kieweg announces Wm DeWitt will be district Scout Executive for the Wabash Valley Council starting January 3 1956. DeWitt 27 married with one child has eight and a half years in professional scouting all in the Egyptian Council. He is a Southern Illinois University graduate and will oversee Crawford and Illinois districts including Clark and Edgar counties to organize train and support district committees.

Secretary of State urges earlier 1956 license plate orders

Secretary of State Charlies F Carpentier urges motorists to speed up applications for 1956 motor vehicle licenses. He notes the planned earlier deadline for plate display and stresses over the counter and mail applications are lagging in Springfield and Chicago. Public Library Closures and Navy Discharge Arrival

The Marshall Public Library will be closed all day on Saturday December 24 Monday December 26 and Monday January 2. It will open in the afternoon Saturday December 31 and close in the evening. Ronald Norton SR-2 arrived in Seattle from Alaska by plane after four years in the United States Navy and will arrive in Marshall this weekend to receive his discharge.
