West Union Honore Soldiers At Red Cross Event
West Union honored its soldiers and a Red Cross nurse with a reception on the Dolson lawn Friday night. Hundreds from Clark and Crawford counties attended as Miss Jessie Rook and Miss Nina Carlyle opened the program. Ray Broadhurst sang. the Male Quartette performed. Judge Snavely and Arthur Poorman gave stirring remarks. Honorees included Miss Beulah Prust who departs for France with the Red Cross, Arthur Poorman, Dr Simpeer, Eddie Buckner and Mr Fowler. Ice cream and cake followed. proceeds exceeded 30 dollars for the Red Cross.

First Aid Class Graduates At Marshall In War Year
Thirty of seventy students completed the first aid course and passed with an average around 95. They will receive Washington certificates soon. Red Cross plans three more courses and urges continued local involvement and knitting drives for military and civilian aid with Marshall chapter allocated to 100 sweaters 100 mufflers 100 wristlets and 100 socks for navy use.

War wedding unites Neukom and Fogle in Terre Haute
Albert Neukom and Hazel Fogle wed Saturday afternoon at the Methodist parsonage with Rev E G Sandmeyer officiating. Miss Ida Blocksom and Robert Cooper joined as witnesses. The couple had planned June nuptials to avoid draft but Neukom was drawn early and passed the physical. they return home to Terre Haute awaiting future call.

Knight Breaks Jail and Escapes from County Jail Residence
John A Knight of Indianapolis broke from jail Saturday evening while Turnkey Will Dickson was away, slipping through the kitchen door and fleeing into the night. Knight fled west, later rode with Julius Snedeker to Terre Haute, and disappeared. Sheriff Wallace ordered increased patrols and proposed new jail attire rules.

The Casey Board of Review summoned residents who underlisted taxable property and ordered them to list or explain. About a dozen appeared Monday and eight cases yielded nearly 13 thousand dollars in taxes with a net of 750. one offender failed to list 3973 dollars and another 3300. More hearings to continue all week with expected additional taxes to run into thousands.

Real Estate Sales At Court House Draw Crowd
Three farm sales attracted a large crowd Saturday afternoon at the courthouse. The Taylor farm, 240 acres east of town on the National road, sold to W. R. White of Terre Haute for 15162 dollars, about 63 dollars per acre. Bruce D. Evans bought the Iradel Evans farm of 86 acres in Melrose township for 4600 dollars, about 52 dollars per acre. The Downs farm, 87 acres in Dolson and Douglas townships, sold for 2650 dollars to Ray Ellledge of Edgar county.

John Prevo and Dan LeGore visited Terre Haute on Saturday and met Capt A L Keesling in charge of the army recruiting station. Clark county has furnished 44 enlisted men, within three of the government allotment, exclusive of navy enlistments and other locales. Capt Keesling praised the county and expects to meet the allotment soon.

Old Lady Adjudged Insane After Commission ruling
Mrs Martha Hanley about 75 years old was found insane by a commission after her husband E E Hanley filed a complaint. The mental condition appeared largely melancholia and delusions, but she was deemed harmless due to age. The Hanleys moved from Edgar county about a year ago and she was taken to Anna by Sheriff Wallace yesterday morning.
