Water and Light Rates Hiked by City Council

Terre Haute closes red light district near army camps

Officials say the order remains in force despite military camp moves, signaling a broad crackdown. In a separate report Zenas Pittinger 22 died after being struck by Pennsylvania train No 114 near Adenmore station, the accident likely caused by sleep during the return home. The wreck caused the buggy and horse to crash, with the body later taken to Marshall for burial.

Acting on the district attorney’s orders State’s Attorney Clements arrested Dick Toman a 55 year old Martinsville resident for seditious remarks about the government and war. He appeared before Justice Ryan, admitted wishing harm on war supporters and was fined and warned not to repeat the offense.

Ermele Sprague of Casey who had been jailed since June 30 for failure to support his two children was released on his own recognizance last week after pleading guilty to neglect. Judge Ruffner ordered $8 weekly support for a year and a $250 bond, but Sprague could not post bond or find a surety. He remained jailed over a month before being released on recognizance and a promise to provide support.
