Judge Sunderman heard the Clark County treasurer contest case Thursday and will not be in the office before September 1. This marks nine months since the case began with August spent without a ruling, prompting public questions about the delay.
A Herald reader urges publication of last week's issue to expose alleged vote tampering in Clark County. He claims 200 votes were stolen to elect Jim Turner over John W. Lewis Sr, names Republican figures, and offers to supply a detailed account and more stories for public scrutiny.
William Womack of Harrisburg Illinois rode Kally Sue in a three four mile event at Marshall Clark County fair Tuesday night. He fell or was thrown as gates opened and sustained head injuries. He was transported by Moore ambulance to Union Hospital Terre Haute for treatment.
Mrs Temple Lovett suffered a fall at home in Marshall Tuesday afternoon resulting in a broken left hip ball joint. She was transported by ambulance to Dr George Mitchell’s office and later admitted to St Anthony Hospital Terre Haute room 373.
Next Sunday evening August 11 at 7 30 at St Paul Methodist Church on Martinsville circuit a special service will be conducted by Skip Jackson and lay speakers. The general public is invited to attend.
Mrs. Sharilyn Volk of Alamogordo gives birth to Laurie Lea Boyll on August 7 at Holloman Air Force Base. The baby weighs seven pounds four ounces. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lea Volk.
The American Legion Auxiliary Choir of Marshall won first place at the State Music Contest in Chicago last Friday. The quartet and sextet also took top honors while the trio earned second place. Groups from Paxton and Chicago competed. The winning ensembles advance to the National Music Contest in Miami on September 8. Members performed pieces including Let My People Go and America United in Rolling Along. The trio featured Marthann Bush Carole Curran and Anne Zschau with Hello Young Lovers and Your Land and My Land. Marian Fitzjarrald accompanied the trio for the quartet selections Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and The Echo Song. Other choir members include Evelyn Melton Gena Johnson Jean Davidson Betty Abel Violet Shaffner Eileen Ellington Priscilla Wieck Emma Fritcher Margaret Hamm Mildred Frazier Geneva Wetzel and director Helen Moore.
The Spires family Wayne Debby Larry and Debby toured highways from Kansas state parks near Tonganoxie to Colorado Springs and Yellowstone. They noted numerous Illinois license plates at attractions such as Sunset Trail and Cheyenne Rodeo. Stops included Fort Riley Manhattan Elsworth Bozeman Cody Pass Badlands Sioux City and Burlington with lingering ties to Marshall and Scheytt family history.
Mary Ann Birchfield infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Philip B Birchfield of Marshall died Tuesday morning at Paris Hospital. Survived by parents grandparents Mr and Mrs Gus Birchfield and Mr and Mrs George Taylor all of Marshall great grandmother Mrs Rosa Tolbert of West Union. Graveside services conducted by Marrs Funeral Home Wednesday at Mt Pleasant Cemetery Reverend H J Kemp officiating. Burial in Mt Pleasant Cemetery.
Two wedding licenses issued for Charles Burgress and Jane Buckner in Terre Haute, and Ted Dyer with Cheryl Dickerson in Ohio. Ronald Murphy and Carolyn Hires pair from Casey also listed. Mrs. Frank Coleman hospital entry for surgery in Terre Haute. Gene Holwick family visited by Fred Holwick and Anna Veach in Winchester Kentucky.
The board met at the high school on August 1 approving 1964-65 tax levies at 1.95 per $100, with funds allocated to education building and transportation. It reviewed budgets, policies, and new staff for 1963-64, with a hearing set for September 5 and notices for driver training, special education, and in-service training programs.
The 67th Clark County Fair launched Sunday with a large opening crowd for the 1963 event. The day featured the McKinley Rodeo at 2 p.m., queen contestants parade at 7:15 p.m., and the Sixteenth Night Horse Racing program starting at 7:45 p.m. Highlights include Miss Clark County Fair candidates, the Egyptian Colt Stake, Clark County Derby, and a Friday Grand Ole Opry show headlined by the Wilburn Brothers.

Representing Clark County at the State Fair, Karen Gasaway Casey won Public Speaking on Ways 4 H Combats Juvenile Delinquency. Diara Hensick earned Flower Arrangement. Theresa Wildman is a demonstration alternate and Kay Leasure will demonstrate A Raisin Casserole Bread. Activities set for Tuesday August 13.
Portia Kuhn Martha Reed Trudy Groothuis Carolyn Burkybile and Lois Burkybile were selected as Clark County clothing models for the State Fair. Jeanette Francis designed a garment for construction. The models appear August 12 to 14 with a dress revue on August 14 at 2 45.
A private wedding at the home of Mr and Mrs R L Hunt in Marshall occurred Sunday morning at 9 30. Their daughter Nellie married E H Duckworth of Martinsville Indiana.
New divorce filings include Charles LeRoy Pittenger vs Nor ma Pittenger and J E McCrory vs Mar McCrory. Birth announcements note a George III son to Mr and Mrs George B Krauss in Evansville and other newborns. A West Union death marks the 69 year old Elsie Cork, with marriage licenses issued for Roy L Galey and Evelyn Kendall and Eugene Rowe with Frances Nellie.
Ten years ago in 1953 Dayton Daughhetee, 42, was fatally injured in an automobile crash on Route 1 south of West York about one mile. Births include a boy born August 3 to Mr and Mrs John Kout soumpas of Terre Haute and a girl Linda Colleen born August 3 to Mr and Mrs John Gagen. Gerald Dean, another boy, born August 3.
