Marriage Amid Temple Bells and Rural Progress
Fortyth years ago John Alvey and Kate Maney were set to wed at the Catholic church in the morning. Will Wajlis wed Mollie Cline in Terre Haute and the couple then settled on a two story home near the Van railroad and Isaac English’s farm. Local band members had raised nearly thirty dollars to erect a pagoda in the courthouse yard as work began Thursday. Marshall visitors including Cy Harlan, Walt Cole, Frank Foster, Clark Lucan, and others traveled to Terre Haute last Friday.

Ten years ago residents faced a petty crime wave as homes of Harry Dulaney Hugh Ferry Charles Bubeck George Hurst and Rob Baird were robbed of provisions including potatoes from Sheriff Hallace’s residence. The Hollers moved to a farm north of town with Miss Cora Holler joining them. Dulaney Bank president Dulaney began a half acre war garden. Frank Hippard resigned as town clerk and Tainley was appointed to succeed him.

Traveling Man Dies at Paris Last Sunday
J. H. Williams a 40 year old salesman for the American Tobacco Company died Sunday morning at a rooming house in Paris Illinois from a heart attack. The body was taken to Morrison chapel in Paris. W R Kenefick of St Louis, Williams’s employer, arrived to arrange funeral and burial. Williams was well known around Marshall and traveled through Marshall on his trips selling to several customers.
