A non profit organization plans a residence for retired individuals and those needing medical and nursing care. Visitors will tour the Burnsides Home to see security comfort and relaxation offered by this facility.
The Clark County election contest over miscounted votes in precinct three delays resumed hearings. Judge Sunderman, Coles County presiding, could not proceed due to another case. Voter listings show light turnout and write ins in wards 1 and 2 plus lightly contested wards 3 and 4.
Mrs John W Tumey and her son Kenji flew non stop from Chicago to Anchorage to join her husband with RCA They will reside in Glenallen Alaska Mrs Tumey has lived in Marshall since September She says Marshall is a nice place to live Her home town is Yokosuka Japan Mrs Ed Tumey accompanied her daughter in law to Chicago and returned home
Clark County Republican Clubs announce a pot-luck dinner to be held Friday April 26 at 6 30 p m at the K P Lodge in Marshall. Members and friends are invited to attend and bring a dish to share.
Miss Inez Karg of Findlay travels through Ohio flood areas to attend a Paris wedding. A dining car collision occurred when a washed out section caused the car to careen, throwing passengers from their seats. The scene ties to Terre Haute residents Robert Markle and Niza Redifer and the Smiths hosting guests at their home.
The Mt Moriah Baptist Church announces a revival beginning Monday April 22 with services each evening at 7 30 led by Rev C C Campbell pastor. The public is invited to attend.
The P T A schedules its regular meeting for Monday April 22 at 7 30 p m in the new high school gymnasium. The junior high band directed by Don Miller will perform and new officers will be installed. Refreshments will be served by the hospitality committee as the year ends. The Home and Garden group of the Marshall Woman's Club meets April 22 at 1 30 p m at the Colonial Kitchen with Mrs William Tingley speaking on Hat Making and next year officer elections.
Forty years earlier in 1923 Mr and Mrs Emmanuel Bee marked their 50th wedding anniversary with a family reunion at their residence. Attendees included Fr Ez Lesure and family, and Jeanette and John Lesure. A fire damaged the roof of W W Ralston’s North Sixth Street home but was controlled quickly. Fire chief says cause unknown. Miss Vivienne Cheek, a Devonport teacher, visits sister Mrs E J Gittel for spring vacation.
Mark Edens reported finding nine large mushrooms after a brief gathering on Route 7. He brought four to the Herald office weighing 3 pounds 3 ounces. The sponge-like fungi were edible. Charles Veach and Mae Smith visited Mrs. Dianna Linton and Mr and Mrs Vern Church Saturday afternoon.
Twenty years ago in 1943 a daughter Linda Kay was born to Mr and Mrs Pau H Imle in Indianapolis weighing 8 lbs 3 oz both mother and child doing nicely. Wes Millhouse Clarksville announces marriage of daughter Martha to Wendel Buckner of Mrs Bertha Buckner. Bride worked in St Louis. groom on navy leave served around Guadalcanal and South Pacific. Marriage licenses list Cpl Edgar S Tingley 24 Marshall and Virginia Barrett 20 Terre Haute.
Ten years ago in Marshall area reports included the birth of Mary Alice, 8 pounds 15 ounces, to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kemp near Marshall at Paris Hospital. Henry W. Bryant sold Marathon Service Station on the square to Harold O. Martin after 21 years of operation. C W Hornbrook learned their daughter Minnie Ellen Kancaster of Boise Idaho has entered a TB sanitarium in Gooding Idaho for at least eight months. Mr and Mrs John Cooney of Chicago welcomed a baby girl born April 20. Cooney is the former Jean Prust, daughter of Mr and Mrs Milo Prust of West Union.
Rev and Mrs Robert S Swain of Taylorville Illinois announce the engagement of their daughter Eleanor to Kenneth Macke son of Mr and Mrs Arnold Macke of West Union. Both are students at the University of Illinois and the wedding is set for June 16.
Marshall Lions readied for swim season after winter damage at the community pool. They will attend the zone social at Martinsville with their wives on the 18th, then travel to Decatur on the 21st for the Region 1E convention. A joint meeting with Rotary is planned for the 28th to discuss the nitrogen plant at Terre Haute. An annual pancake supper will be served at the school cafeteria in conjunction with the open house. Homer Guinnip aged 75 died at Paris Hospital on Friday April 12. Survived by wife Carrie, five daughters, one son Homer Jr., sister Ellen Shonk, seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral at Marrs Funeral Home with burial in Marshall Cemetery. Reva Jane See aged 44 died at home on April 12. Survived by husband Loren, two daughters Janet Wilson and Judy Lee, two sons Larry and Vern, mother Lillie Walters, three sisters, two brothers, two grandchildren. Services at Bell Ridge Church conducted by Rev Tom Haines with burial at Edgar Cemetery. Bryce D Drake of Martinsville named to the Dean's List for scholastic excellence at Rose Poly and pledged to Tau Beta Pi engineering honor fraternity.
A candlelight ceremony on April 6 united Miss Carole B. Lewis and Stephen P. Arney at First Methodist Church in Marshall. The couple, both from Marshall, reside in Springfield after weddings in Illinois society circles.
Dr Morris Fishbein of Chicago a noted medical author and editor will be the featured speaker at the Illinois Heart Association 19th annual meeting and delegate assembly May 4 and 5 in Peoria He will speak on New Aspects of Heart Disease at the annual dinner May 4 The two day meeting at Peorias Hotel Jefferson will attract heart unit delegates and volunteers from 99 Illinois counties Wilfred Shaw of Marshall will attend as the Clark county delegate.
The committee outlines an after prom party at Colonial Kitchen with Madame X fortune telling and new souvenir pictures from a renovated studio. A continual bingo game with prizes and favors is planned, with half hour drawings for major prizes. Earl Lowry of Detroit and Mrs. Howard Young of Union Hospital Terre Haute are noted.
A class of young people was received into membership at the First Methodist Church in Marshall on Sunday April 7.
