Washington December 23. Solicitor Charles F. Russell and William V. King of the federal power commission were dismissed from duty by the incoming commissioners. Executive secretary F. E. Bonner also resigned amid Senate controversy over Maine’s George Otis Smith as new chairman. Senator Brookhart pledged to seek reconsideration, as Russell and King had been central figures in the commission’s affairs.
The Republican National Committee stands as guarantor of Robert H. Lucas secret campaign against Senator George W. Norris in Nebraska. Lucas portrays Norris as a growing cancer in the party and argues for a purge of progressives to save the GOP. The dispute risks a third party, with Nye Investigating Committee and bank sources cited.
York reports the death of the composer Harris at 65 after a three week illness. The song After the Ball became a landmark, inspired by a Chicago ball scene and remains his best known work, despite Harris not reading music and composing by ear using a piano lever. He also wrote Just Break the News to Mother and rejected Jazz, preferring melodious ballads that endure beyond trends.

Molten lava from Mer epi volcano in Java continued to claim lives and devastate villages. A lava stream had advanced over six miles since Monday. The Marshall city council approved a radio interference ordinance with three sections. It bans operation of machines likely to disrupt radio reception between 6:30 p m and 12 30 a m, allows exemptions for medically equipped devices, and outlines penalties and jail terms for violators. Alderman Wallace introduced it and said a radio club will fund publication and interference clean up efforts. Marshall is among the last similarly sized cities in the state to enact such rules.
Dayton report says Virgil Marshall, 37, planned robbery at his father’s Brookville bank. He took $7,700, then shot himself as officers arrived. He had been assistant cashier six months ago. Five ex-employees were herded into the vault. money recovered, elder Marshall to explain actions.

They traveled via Truk in the Caroline Islands, spoke of mountain climates at Lake Nojiri and Karuizawa, exams and dental care, and collaboration with Japanese and German missionaries serving Mortlocks and surrounding islands.
In Detroit Michigan on December 23 Mrs Fannie Brown a 44 year old school teacher at Hutchins Intermediate School was shot and seriously wounded by Charles Christopher 53 who had pursued her for years She said he offered flowers and she refused then drew a revolver and fired at her in her classroom as few teachers were present and no pupils had gathered
