Burglars struck two Michigan towns last night, hitting Albion and Battle Creek. In Battle Creek the Van Boyent store lost 15 bath robes 17 mens suits 14 topcoats and other small items, all tied to the Langrook and Lockwood names. Albion’s Hart Schatiner Marx items included 45 suits, ten overcoats size 39 and 40, and more, totaling about 1000 dollars. Entry in Battle Creek was gained by forcing the door lock cylinder. Police from both cities and the state police were alerted and radioed.

Washington December 18 The drought relief program survived a House vote 189 to 133 after defeating a Democratic amendment to raise the amount from the earlier Senate figure. Later the Senate voted 42 to 39 to allow President Hoover to distribute the 116 million emergency construction fund to create work for the unemployed.

Fire Chief Harold Vogt estimated more than $1000 damage from a blaze at the La Verne Holt residence on south Sycamore street last evening. Overheating stovepipe and chimney are suspected causes. alarm came near 9:20 PM, hindering early notice. Only occupants were Holt sons Gordon, 17, and Dalton, 4, while the household goods mostly survived, saved or water damaged. The roof and west and south walls suffered heavy damage, though a recent rear addition was spared. Insurance coverage is with E Ly Bigelow.

Vermont Senator Frank L. Greene, Republican, dies after a relapse from hernia surgery. At his bedside were his wife and mother. Funeral at Congregational church with Greenwood Cemetery interment.
