Herrin Labor Day Parade Plans September 6 Event
Herrin will host the Williamson and Jackson County Labor Day celebration on September 6 at the city park with a parade of floats and bands. John L. Lewis will speak along with other noted leaders, and Marion Herrin Murphysboro Carterville Johnston City unions will send delegations. The program includes speeches by Jose Poganni Senator Sneed Judge Hartwell and John Lewis with a big afternoon baseball game between Marion and Herrin.

Resumed Work On The Orpheum Theatre In Marion
After a ten week layoff due to a dispute with bricklayers the Orpheum theatre at the southwest corner of the pub square resumed Thursday. Superintendent A C Buecker plans to push construction and complete the theater for early shows before Christmas. The Zeigler theatre from the same company is nearly complete, and the Orpheum is described as the handsomest theater in Southern Illinois.

Fire destroys Parker City hotel store and post office
A fire at Parker City destroyed a hotel, a store, and the post office near the depot early Friday. The blaze was found between two and three a.m. and little was saved. A safe at the depot was robbed of 250 dollars during the incident.

Williamson County Teachers Institute closes as best ever held
The forty fifth annual Williamson County Teachers Institute ended Friday with Superintendent J. W. McKinney calling it the most successful yet in attendance and interest. Over 300 registered on opening day, rising to about 350 through the week at Williamson High School. The high school cafeteria operated to provide lunches, while Principal Arno Bratten aided in using the building for teachers. A large community sing at First Baptist Church Thursday featured Prof. J. W. Yoder directing music and readings by J. L. Hartwell of Marion, with the audience praising Prof. Yoder and his engaging presence.
