Press Moves to Elegant New Office in Smith Building
The Press is now housed in rooms 1 and 2 of the Smith building at High and Water streets. Room 2 serves as a workshop with light, ventilation, and a view of academy grounds. Room 1 houses the business office and editor’s private room, with a free reading room and tiled reading papers on a long table. The editor invites the public to call and feel at home, noting the second floor location away from street noise and convenient access to court house and business houses. Weather signals will be displayed, and a bulletin board will be installed along with other accommodations.

Prizes Awarded for School Compositions
At a Patton Benjamin area school Miss Cora Linton won a prize for a first class composition on Going to School and Miss Ida Heitman won for What makes the sea gally in the second class. A jail escape was reported from Farpericxtown as William Ledbetter slipped away for a bucket of water but was recaptured. Nora Whitebread hosted a birthday party at her home for her 19th birthday with friends attending.

Drunken Adcock Escapes After Attack on Woman
Special to the Press from Patrox February 25. Holtward Adcock, jailed for an alleged assault on Miss Emma Killian at John Wadkins’ home, fled through Dr. O’Kelley’s house with Constable Salyers pursuing. A small Dunlin County man, he is missing after the incident. revolver discharged, no serious injury reported. Police notes also report burglars at Main Street depot and Dr. Jaques drug store, siphoning 30 cents and opening the front door but failing to reach the depot safe’s inner vault.

Trustees vote to unite Mayfield-Smith with Fredericktown plan
The Mayfield-Smith Academy Board of Trustees proposed a union with Farmington College at Fredericktown. By a 6 to 3 vote, the plan would unite interests if Fredericktown provides $25,000 and ten acres of land, with guaranteed funds by April 7. Marble Hill’s three trustees opposed the proposition.
