Gale Flexes Through Manito Damaging Local Displays

A 45 mph gale swept through Manito on Wednesday causing minor community damage with downed tree limbs and soil displacement. The wind mainly affected watermelon displays and soil in fields, knocking down Ernest Palmer’s display and denting one end of the Talbott Market on the pavement.

A H Fuller is a patient in Pekin Public Hospital with a broken hip. Relatives in Manito have received the ward, and Fuller is noted as the father of Mrs. John Frederick and Mrs. Jake Schimmelpfenning of Manito. He was for years a Malone Township farmer with many friends in the community.

Pvt. Martin Counterman of Peoria returned to camp Monday September 10 after a 30 day home leave from Korea. He visited relatives and friends including Mr. and Mrs. Marion Spradling.
