The Forman Community School Unit board announces all students are insured through Horace Mann Mutual Casualty Company for accidents during supervised school activities. Benefits include hospital costs, X rays, dental, and other fees with set maximums. Liability insurance also covers school buses.
Two women identified as Mrs. Joseph Sparks and Mrs. Etta Cox were noted in Pekin on Tuesday afternoon in a brief social mention from the local column.
A 45 mph gale swept through Manito on Wednesday causing minor community damage with downed tree limbs and soil displacement. The wind mainly affected watermelon displays and soil in fields, knocking down Ernest Palmer’s display and denting one end of the Talbott Market on the pavement.
The notice urges homeowners to pull weeds and cut grass to prevent sewer blockages. It warns that discarded yard waste can clog sewer openings and cause street overflows, especially as leaves fall. It stresses civic pride and warns against a repeat of last springs sewer stoppage.
Mrs Grace Lewis aged 73 died suddenly Saturday evening at her son’s home in Battle Creek Michigan. Funeral services and burial were held in Decatur. Mrs Ellen Dobson missed teaching Room I this week and Mrs Leonard Hewitt served as substitute.
Mr and Mrs Edward Alexander and Steven arrive from North Carolina to visit Mrs Alexander s parents Mr and Mrs Ernest Beebe and other relatives and friends.
Mr. William Tad Beebe and Mrs. Lloyd Beebe arrive with grandson from Toledo Ohio to visit former Manito residents including Mr. and Mrs. C A Beebe and local friends and relatives.
The Forman School Unit Community Club invites all interested in school activities to a meeting in the Senior High Gymnasium at 7330 Manito on Monday evening September 17.
Richard E. Smith and two Manito youths Larry Parkin and Larry Wheat arrived at Fantsom Air Force Base in Geneva New York. Dick writes they reached Friday at 1 30 a m and are undergoing induction while enjoying meals and friendly officers and men.
A H Fuller is a patient in Pekin Public Hospital with a broken hip. Relatives in Manito have received the ward, and Fuller is noted as the father of Mrs. John Frederick and Mrs. Jake Schimmelpfenning of Manito. He was for years a Malone Township farmer with many friends in the community.
The 1951 telephone directories will be issued early next month according to word from the Middlestates Telephone Co. The new directories will be organized similar to the format of last year.
The Manito Express will send copies of the paper to Manito area residents or friends who are ill. Call the office with the sick person’s name and address to receive the next issue.
Pvt. Martin Counterman of Peoria returned to camp Monday September 10 after a 30 day home leave from Korea. He visited relatives and friends including Mr. and Mrs. Marion Spradling. A dinner in his honor was held at the Spradling home Sunday with Chauncey Tisdale his wife and daughters, Pvt Counterman and his father present.
Kent Maupin of South Pekin, son of Mr and Mrs Bernard Maupin, spent the week visiting his grandparents Mr and Mrs John Frederick. Mrs Maupin is formerly Laura Betty Frederick.
Miss Mary Alice Cooper daughter of Dr and Mrs J W Cooper has enrolled at Arkansas Polytechnic College Russellville Ark for her junior year Mickey a graduate of M C H S 1949 entered the southern college in Sept following her graduation Mary has been employed in Hot Springs this summer where she has also been studying piano and ballet Miss Cooper and her roommate Miss Ann Lee Ewing of Scranton Ark have been living at the home of Mr and Mrs James Weaver in Hot Springs the latter a sister of Miss Ewings Marys residence while at Poly is Parker Hall where Miss Maude Moore of Batesville Ark is House Mother
Lowell Warner has registered at the University of Illinois for his junior year and Dolores Borchett has returned to Valparaiso to begin her sophomore year.

Forman high school baseball team prepares to host Bath tomorrow afternoon seeking a third win in a row after two prior meetings. Bath aims to even the series as 27 of 36 boys are ready for baseball with 15 new blue grey uniforms.
