Mrs. Carrie Gumbel recuperates from a fall at her daughter Sterling Woodley’s home with Mrs. Blanche Hamilton helping at the Middle States Telephone. Mrs. Helen Bilyeu is home after an operation at Methodist Hospital Peoria. Nellie Zimmerman recovers at home from a broken right wrist after a fall, cared for by daughter and family Glenn Williams. George Hoffman, with a back injury from a fall, was taken to Pekin Hospital by Johnson Ambulance for X-rays and treatment.
The Manito Rotary Club gathered at the Methodist Church Tuesday evening at 6 30 with President D J Powell presiding. Dillard Warner introduced Ernest Bernieman of Hopedale who showed pictures from a Meet The People Tour in Europe with farm people highlighted aided by Dr Lindstrom from the University of Illinois. Rotarian Hewitt named next week as program chairman for another 100 percent meeting.
Mrs. D. J. Powell attends two group meetings this week in Minonk and Galva to assist with the Woman's Society of Christian Service. Powell serves as Secretary of the Children's Work and participates in both programs.
Mrs Iva Clarke from Havana visited Mr and Mrs Sam Hyde and Miss Nora Ryan and others in Manito Saturday evening.
The Mason County Health groups and partners operate a free chest X-ray mobile in Mason County from November 5 to 22 1952. Adults 18 to 80 are urged to register, remove metal, and have a confidential report mailed. Early TB detection and chest health checks are emphasized with local canvassing and schedules posted locally.
Mr. and Mrs. Har hosted a Tuesday birthday party for Janet Lynn’s first birthday. The lunch featured cake ice cream and coffee in a decorated stable setting with balloons and one lit candle. Janet Lynn received numerous gifts as relatives attended.
Attention R N A members. Oak Leaf Camp No 4 will hold its November meeting at the home of Mrs Lillie Schenert on November 8 the first Monday. All members are welcome. Meeting begins at a stated time.
Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Borkce of Peoria were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Palmer and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Wilson.
Frank Golden of Forman High School ties for first in the State Hampshire Swine Sale and Judging Contest held in Princeton. Sixteen Forman FFA members competed and the school claims unofficial team champ by placing the most top 20 scorers. Top Forman judges included Golden Gosda Rakestraw Gray Noll and Dierker.
About 100 Forman High School music students travel to Petersburg on Friday October 24 to participate in the Abe Lincoln Conference Music Festival. The event, an annual effort by conference schools to promote music and speech, will feature music only this year with eight schools taking part. Choruses and bands will rehearse together in the afternoon and give a concert at Potemian High School starting at 7:30 p.m. Parents and friends are invited to attend.
The Beta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority gathered at Freda Schwering’s country home near Bath on Saturday. Officers were elected: Mabel Ambach president Goldie Ketcham vice president Marian Brooner secretary Grace Sisson treasurer Esther Johnson chaplain Fern Steinhauer pledge chairman Hazel Oest sergeant at arms Etherine Nix keeper of the archives. Mr Hobbs County Superintendent showed moving pictures from his travels. A white elephant parade awarded elephants as prizes. Refreshments followed hosted by the members listed.
The W S C S of Manita Methodist Church opens its Week of Self Denial and Prayer from October 25 to 31 with group meetings in several homes. Offerings support Negro Missions.
The annual drive starts last Wednesday with a single campaign. Students will order magazines from Crowell Collier and Curtis. Prizes will reward pupils for specified subscriptions. Schools receive 30 to 50 percent of subscription price to support school organizations. Subscriptions cost the same as direct orders.

The Mason Co Association will provide T B tests for high school students. A county nurse and a doctor will be at the high school on Monday October 27 to administer the test. Last year every student participated and those reacting received chest X rays.

The annual staff met with a representative from the Inter Collegiate Press in Kansas City Missouri last week to map preliminary plans for this year's edition. The cover was revised and it was decided to proceed with printing the annual. further details will be announced later.
Mary Alice Cooper a Kilbourne Elementary teacher was a weekend visitor at her parents home Dr and Mrs Cooper Rebecca Jane Urish of Green Valley spent last week with her grandparents Dr and Mrs Cooper in a family exchange of visits and hospitality
The senior class chose Rembrandt Studio in Perria to handle the class and annual pictures. Rembrandt Studio is praised for good local school work and reasonable contract prices. Seniors will receive an 8 by 10 oil portrait and twelve 6 by 7 prints as part of the package.
The announcement offers a senior picture package for nine dollars and ninety five cents including a composite portrait for the graduation folder. Seniors will travel by bus to Peoria on November 3 for photo sessions and delivery is promised by Christmas.
Cheerleaders for the coming basketball season were chosen at an election on Wednesday. They are Carolyn Warner, Joy Risen, Eloise Whitaker and Phyllis Kroel.
Several soldiers from the 44 Division of the National Guard return on fur loughs to spend time with families. Billie Hamilton arrived Monday October 13 for eighteen days. Bruce Meyer and Don Bowley are back from duty with Carl Meyer and Bowby homes nearby. Russell Meyer visited from Greenville Air Base to see Bruce. Donald Runyon visits before reporting to Keesler Mississippi.
The WSCS at Manito Methodist Church will sponsor a Halloween party for the Primary Department of the Methodist Sunday School on October 31 from 7 30 to 9 30 in the church basement. Children ages 6 7 8 are invited and a prize will be awarded for the most unusual costume. Parents are reminded of the date.
Miss Mabel Corbett acted as hostess to the Teacher's Club at her home on Monday evening. Halloween themed decorations and a chicken supper followed by pinochle with prizes awarded by Fern Lawlis, Jeanette Ethell, Helen Thompson and Christine Johnson. Attendees included Mrs. Kerr, Mrs. Seelye, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Ethell, Mrs. Lawliss, Mrs. Johnson, Mr. Ethell, the hostess, and three guests. The November gathering will be at Mrs. Merlyn Ethell's home.
A Friday afternoon gathering at Mrs Mabel Grob's home honored Mrs Bessie Fehrman Edna Bell and Janet Kay Higginbotham of Atlanta Georgia. They sat at a prettily decorated table with Miss Mabel Corbett, Mrs Myrtle Cooper, Mrs Edna Maloney and the hostess. Fehrman is remembered as a longtime genial telephone operator here with her late husband Boyce Fehrman who managed the local office.
