Mason County Home Bureau Meets at Methodist Church

The Manita Unit of the Mason County Home Bureau met on Thursday October 9 at the Methodist Church with 33 members and one visitor. Hostesses Mary Meeker and Marguerite Whitford organized a potluck, Carl Mason presented the major lesson, and Shirley Gumbel chaired the business meeting noting Blue Ribbon Unit status.

Manito Rotary Club hears talk on Bishop Hill State Park

The Manito Rotary Club met at the Methodist Church on Tuesday evening. D J Powell presided as items were discussed after a group sing led by Vernon Langston. Rev Powell spoke on Bishop Hill State Park and its Christian Community Life, recalling a July visit. Mrs John Eaton of Havana sang three sacred numbers.

Mason County residents learn the final corn loan rate is 1.62 per bushel with loans and purchase agreements available through May 31, 1953. The maturity date for loans is July 31, 1953, and eligibility covers all producers. The rate reflects 90 percent of the Oct 1 price and aims to prevent selling below loan value.

Rally Day Service at Manito Methodist Church

A large crowd gathered at Manito Methodist Church for Rally Day services on Sunday morning. Representatives from classes and the Sunday School led a program with songs, solos, organ pieces by George E. Ethell, and readings, followed by a brief sermon, a reading by Mrs. Robert Herman, and a benediction. The congregation closed with the Doxology.

Forman School Club Meets Monday Night

Death of George Skaggs at Forestry City Community

George Skaggs 49, of the Forestry City community, died suddenly Friday evening after finishing work for Roy White and Son. He collapsed while speaking with Mr and Mrs White. Dr Gayalai pronounced him dead. Funeral arrangements were handled by Johnson Funeral Home, with last rites in Mason City. Survived by widow and children Charles, James, Coretta, Lois, Betty, Rosa, and Robi. The family moved from Fulton County in March 1950, first living in the Coon Grove area before relocating to the farm once owned by Mr and Mrs Ed White.

Forman Class 1953 Hosts Square and Round Dance

The Forman High School class sponsors a square and round dance Friday October 17 from 8 to 11 pm in the Forman Junior High gym Forest City. The Down Beats from Spavn provide music. Pinochle Club Hosts Forest City Party

Mr and Mrs Kirby V Lawlis entertained the pinochle club at their Forest City home last Saturday with a political party theme. Clarence Foste won high score, the travel prize went to Mrs Otto Dierker, and consolation prizes went to Mr and Mrs Clarence Kreiling. Others present included Mrs Clarence Foste Otto Dierker Mr and Mrs Roy White and Mr and Mrs Beryl LeCount. A luncheon followed the games.
