Forman Unit Completes School Building Auction

The Forman Unit concluded the Public Auction of country schools with items sold to various buyers. Buildings and sites at Isenberg, Coon Grove, Hickory Grove, Rogers, Crescent, Mt. Carmel, Spring Garden and other components fetched prices including furnaces coal sheds toilets stoves bells and more, totaling numerous small sales and bids.

Manito High School Class of 1927 celebrates 25th anniversary

Members of the Class of 1927 gathered at the Methodist Church to mark their school graduation anniversary. Fifteen graduates, the largest class to date, reminisced, viewed progress at Forman High School, and read a letter from former professor C. A. C. Ostigny. One member, Harry Mc Laughlin, is deceased. the rest reside in Illinois.

Manito Rotary Club Adds New Members in Forest City

The Manito Rotary Club met in Forest City with president D. J. Powell in charge. Three new members were welcomed and a fourth is in induction. Joseph Hobbs gave the inductees’ address. Leo Borglt held, as game warden, spoke on conservation law enforcement challenges. Next week Joseph W. Hobbs will chair, and meetings move to the Manito Methodist Church after three months at the Home Bureau venue.

Forman Jr High Softball Teams Defeat Easton Squads

Forman Junior High girls beat Easton 24 to 5 in seven innings with Patricia Crafton pitching and Jeanette Parker catching. A second Forman girls team posted a 16 to 12 win by end of the second inning. Easton junior high boys also defeated Forman 12 to 2 and 14 to 2 in both first and second games.

Death of Arley Schenert Manito brick mason obituary

Arley A. Schenert 69 of Manito died at Pekin Public hospital after a ten day illness. He was a brick mason, born August 10 1883 to Valentine and Alice Eyler Schenert. He married Lillian Watson on January 27 1932. Surviving are his widow five stepsons four sisters and other relatives. Funeral services were held at Johnson Funeral Home with Rev Joseph Hobbs and Rev D J Powell officiating. Burial in Meadow Lawn Cemetery.

Norman Bilyeu Breaks Arm Cranking Tractor

Norman Bilyeu injured his right arm last Thursday at the Dillard Warner farm while cranking a tractor. He was taken to Pekin Hospital where X rays confirmed both bones between the elbow and wrist were broken.
