Local stores to close Thanksgiving Day

All Manito's Grocery Stores, Hardware Stores Palmer's Meat Market, and Garages will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. The Manito Express is making a special effort to get the paper published a day early, to enable the Express workers to enjoy a day of rest on Thursday. We want to say thank you to all who cooperated with news and advertising and helped us to have this edition out early.

Forest City farmer injured by corn picker accident

Wilbur Van Orman, three miles southeast of Forest City, suffered a left hand injury when caught in a corn picker’s snapping rolls on Friday. Taken to Pekin Public hospital by his brother Raymond, x rays showed splintered bones in three fingers and stitches on two. He remains under a physician’s care while convalescing at home.

Prof and Mrs Raymond Miller of Delavan welcomed an 8 lb 1 oz baby boy named Douglas Kent born at 9:00 Monday morning November 19 at Our Saviour Hospital Jacksonville. Chicago Man Fatally Shot in Duck Hunting Accident

Edward S. Rand of Chicago was killed while duck hunting on Quiver Lake north of Havana. He was in a duck blind in a boat when his cocked gun discharged after striking the blind, shooting him under the arm. Dr. LeBenion Brenheimer, his companion, observed the event and an inquest led by Mason County coroner Richard Hurley was held at Hurley funeral home.
