First Post Office for Manito Township In 1851
The Manito Township post office history traces its moves from 1852 on the Havana Route via Col. R Moore to Egypt Station then to the Village of Manito by 1860 with John Rosier as first postmaster. Subsequent sites include the Peoples State Bank site and the Mc Comas homestead. Roy Loveland and Glenn Smith served as postmasters until 1933 and 1952 moves brought a modern building east of the bank with routes 1 and 2 run by Huffman and Hiller. Bertha Thomas and Elaine Herrman work as clerks with Jack Halpin as mail messenger.

Manito Methodist Church hosted a Monday clean-up day with men using tools to clear trees trim shrubbery mend drains and install bird screens in the belfry. Men and boys shot nuisance pigeons as a sport while women served dinner. several returned Tuesday to finish tasks. The event united church grounds and community in appreciation.

CROP FUND GROWS in Mason County appeal drive
Latest reports show that since the CROP appeal began, farm families and village friends have donated $150000. Contributions are received by County CROP chairman Howard Everitt or the Farm Bureau Office in Havana. Legion to Sponsor Cub Scout Pack in Manito
The American Legion Post in Manila will sponsor a new Cub Scout Pack in Manito. A series of three organizational meetings began Nov. 19 at the Manila Opera House with 55 parents and boys attending to learn Cub Scouting basics and parental roles. The remaining sessions are Nov. 26 and Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.

Accident on Blacktop Claims Two Drivers Near Sky Ranch
Otto Hirst of Pekin Cleaners suffered three severe scalp wounds in a two car crash on the Manito Blacktop near Sky Ranch Tuesday evening. John Taylor’s car reportedly backed onto the highway. Both were taken to Pekin Hospital and remained overnight. Hirst returned home Wednesday.

Train Victim Brother of Mrs Meyer Dies in Pekin
Rev. Father Fidelis Albrecht of San Angelo Texas arrived Sunday after learning of his brother Fred Albrecht's death in Pekin following a Friday afternoon train collision. Albrecht died at Pekin Hospital. He was a brother of Mrs. Wm. Meyer and well known locally. Visitors from Calumet City and St. Louis joined the Meyers in mourning. Father Fidelis will stay briefly here and in Pekin before returning to Texas.
