Beards to Take Over Community Express Newspaper

Three years after a prior takeover, Mr and Mrs Charles Beard of Delavan with daughters Charlene Vicky and Margie will assume editing and publishing duties for the Community Express next week under a tentative agreement. DeVores will assist for a month or two before handing over fully. Mayme Seelye departs after years of service to pursue ink-free days. The move aims to refresh the paper and reenergize the town paper with new leadership.

Oak Grove Cemetery marks a century this year with 47 Civil War veterans buried there. The first grave for Mary C. Cox was dug in September 1855 near Old Durang Town, land donated by Mrs. Cox. Forman High School Baccalaureate Attended by Class of '65

Baccalaureate services for Forman High School graduates drew a large crowd in the Forman Gym. Thirty-one seniors in blue and white were escorted by Janet Noll and Roger Vogel of the class of '56. Joseph W. Hobbs, County Superintendent of Schools, delivered the address urging students to Hang On Don’t Run and Move Forward One Step At A Time. Commencement is set for Friday evening May 27 in the High School Gym with public invited.

Manito resident George Eidman dies in Springfield hospital

George Eidman a lifelong Manito farmer died at St Johns hospital Springfield at 3 pm Thursday after a brief illness. Born April 10 1868 in Pekin he married Kathryn Werghrich February 16 1893 who died in 1940. He is survived by three daughters two sons eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services are set for 2 pm Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home with Rev Joseph Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in Meadow Lawn cemetery. Friends may call after 7 pm.

Hospital notes report multiple local patients under care

Mrs. Paul Woods was taken to Pekin Hospital Sunday afternoon in the Johnson Ambulance after suffering a severe heart attack at her home. Oscar Smith entered the Methodist Hospital Peoria Sunday evening and on Monday morning underwent major surgery. Reports are that he is doing well. Fred Durham is a patient in the Pekin Hospital for observation and treatment.

Pool Construction Progress Amid Delayed Chlorination System

Work on the swimming pool continues toward completion. The fence is purchased and will soon enclose the pool. Sides and bottom have been painted. The chlorination system is delayed due to slow parts arrivals, delaying opening. William C. Law will serve as pool manager and lifeguard when the pool opens.
