Scott Lucas to Speak at Rotary Tuesday Night

Former senator Scott Lucas will address the Manto Rotary Club at the regular evening meeting Tuesday. Last meeting William Law, director in the Forman Ont, led the program and spoke about his Army service in the occupation of Japan with many souvenirs shown.

Manito Forest City pool restoration to open June 1

The Manito Forest City Optimist club restored the old pool site with a new floor walls a filter system pump house septic tanks and a fence. Volunteers washed walls May 14 and the pool is slated to be ready for use by June 1 with water in and kids and adults expected to swim.

Carrie Meyer Dies in Canton Rites Saturday

Carrie Meyer died in Canton and funeral services will be held May 21 at 2:30 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Powell and Rev. Young will officiate. Burial will be at Meadow Lawn Cemetery. Born September 14, 1872 in Topeka to Conrad A. Blumen and Elizabeth Blumen, she married John Meyer in 1894 who died in 1947. Survived by four sons Elmer of Topeka Lester of Granite City Harold and Melvin of Manito two sisters Elizabeth Netkirk Havana and Fannie Reinhard Pekin four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Jr High Diplomas Awarded in Forest City Ceremony

A class of fifty eighth graders 28 girls 22 boys received diplomas at Forest City Jr High under Principal Lloyd Skinner with Supt. Joseph W. Hobbs delivering the address. The program featured music by the choruses and Larry Woiwode baritone. A pot luck supper followed in the cafeteria for Home and School Club members and guests.

Gold Star Mothers Honored at Legion Event

Gold Star Mothers of Hurt Palmer Post American Legion Auxiliary were honored at a family style supper in the Legion Hall Monday evening. Three Gold Star Mothers received honors Mrs. Roy Runyon Mrs. Harry Selke and Mrs. Glenn G. Smith attended while three others missed the event including Mrs. Alonzo Beebe Mrs. Chester Endicott and Mrs. Elmer Palmer.
