Mr. and Mrs. Loren Meeker entertained for Mother's Day and honored Mrs. Sam Meeker on her upcoming birthday Wednesday May 17. Attendees included Mr. J. B. Whitaker of Forest City, Mr. and Mrs. Moses Meeker and daughter Kathryn, and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Meeker with sons Paul and Clyde.
Mr and Mrs Albert A DeVore publishers of the Manito Community Express announce the birth of a son Albert Lon weighing seven pounds thirteen ounces at Pekin Public Hospital on Saturday May 13 1950 This is their second child and their first a daughter Allene Marie
Mr and Mrs Burton Guinger ich and Mrs Dean Meyer visited Dean Meyer in the hospital Saturday. Meyer had his appendix removed last week.
Pastor Rev. Joseph W. Hobs leads Sunday School at 9 45 and Morning Worship at 10 45 with no evening service.
Brownie, a beloved stray in Manito, received a one year reprieve from destruction after local supporters funded a license and collar. A poem by Mrs. Charles Hill honors the dog’s friendly presence and urges residents to avoid flooding the town with strays.
Thirty five members and two guests attended the Manita Home Bureau meeting at Mrs. Helena Warner's home with co host Mabel Scher beck. A pot luck lunch was served and lessons on Soft Meringues and Care of Young Children at Adult Meetings were led by Arletta Hill Helen Rankin and Mrs Shirley Gumbel Mrs Er nest Marshall. Martha Meeker led the safety and Recreation segments. Roll call answered with My Favorite Color in Decorating My Home. Next meeting set at Mrs Lois DeSut ter's home. Mr and Mrs Gaile Beebe Jr Peoria visited Mr and Mrs Owen Singley. George Arnett was taken to Pekin Hospital by Johnson Ambulance Wednesday morning.

Miss Jean Marie Woodley attended Bradley University's campus day in Peoria and invited her mother Mrs Sterling Woodley and Misses Wanda Thompson Wanda Lowry and Lucille Meyer as guests. Jean Marie, from the MCHIS graduating class, plans to enter Bradley in the fall after the morning program and campus barbecue.
Manilo Grade School Mother's Club met Monday evening and elected Ellen Morgan as President Lucille Hubbard as Vice President Margie Rankin as Secretary Alice Meyer as Treasurer Matilda Bernshausen and Ethell Smith named co chairs for the May 29 school picnic Families are invited to attend bringing a covered dish and their own table service for the noon picnic.
Manito High School principal J. J. Rush releases the honor roll list for six weeks and the semester. A b marks both periods, a 6 six weeks, an s for semester. Names include Jane Bender Marilyn Bernshausen Shirley Bernshausen Norman Bilyeu etc with multiple indicators, plus several Meyers and Hughs.
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 561 remind Manita residents of the nationwide Poppy Day sale on May 27. Auxiliary members will call at homes and be posted on Main St Saturday evening. Contributions support disabled war veterans who make the poppies.
Mr and Mrs Robert Kastner hosted a covered dish dinner at their country home on Sunday honoring Mr and Mrs Wilbur Hofrieter of Green Valley as they observed their birth days. Guests included Mr and Mrs George Meeker and Mr and Mrs Elmer Meeker and family Mason City Mr and Mrs Leister Hofrieter Mrs Cora Hofrieter Mr and Mrs Harold Connett and family Green Valley Mr and Mrs Merlyn Ethell Manita their daughter Mary Ann the honorees and the hosts and their daughter Mary Ann. Also Mr and Mrs Owen Singley and Mr and Mrs Walter Blessman and Dwight Havana were Sunday dinner guests of Mrs Maggie McKinley Easton.
Manito Community High School in Manito Illinois will hold exercises Friday night with speakers including Joseph W. Hobbs Mason County Superintendent of Schools and Rev D J Powell. Forest City high school graduates Monday May 22 with address by Dr Manley E MacDonald and diplomas presented by J F Whitaker and F E Bender.

Principal John J Rash announces the highest scholastic averages for 1950 at Manito Community High School. Valedictorian is Jean Marie Woodley, daughter of Sterling and Mrs Woodley, noted for four years of activity including Man-Hi-An and Orange and Black staff, chorus, and theater. Salutatorian is Wanda Lowry, daughter of Roy and Mrs Lowry, who served as class president, acted as secretary treasurer of the student committee, and worked on Orange and Black and Man-Hi-An staff and theater projects.
Rebecca Chapter No 487 ORS of Manila held its annual Friends Night at the Masonic Hall with guest Mrs Lillie Jackson of Forest City. Officers serving included Lela Kahl Vernon Parr Alta Mae Parr Arthur Ball Virgie Inskeep Dorothy Gibbens Clarissa Whitfield Johanna Parr Agnes Soady Amos Thompson Madeline Marshall Orlong Rush Russelville Elizabeth Walker Laura Heineken Fern Lawkis Mabel Yarrington Cecil Hammond John Jibbens Nelson Evans Glenna Mae Smith and others from Havana Pekin Delavan and Manto. The dining room featured lilacs and tulips with a spring theme and a dessert service.
The engaged couple Donna Meyer and Rudolph Vetter Jr were announced at a Lambda Chi Alpha spring format at Peoria Country Club. Both are Eureka College sophomores and members of Delta Zeta and Lambda Chi Alpha respectively.
