Unit District Election for Forest City Area Planned

A special April 28 hearing in Forest City reviewed a petition to form a Community Unit District for Manito Forest Area. The petition met six points of the school code and will go to a June 10 election. If approved, the district starts July 1 1950 covering Forest City and Manito high school districts.

Exams for five University of Illinois scholarships will be conducted June 3 in Havana by Joseph W. Hobbs county superintendent. Applicants must be 16 or older and residents. Scholarships include county, agriculture, home economics, and two for veterans' children World War I and II. The test covers English and two of social studies math or natural science.

The Illinois Conference of the Methodist Church will convene in Bloomington from June 6 to June 11 with a heavy agenda. Ministers receive one year assignments, except for the General Superintendent. Lutheran Ladies Aid convention attendees honored in Havana

Rev and Mrs O A Borchelt and many members of St Paul's Egypt Lutheran Church Ladies League and Tabitha Society attended the annual Lutheran Ladies Aid Association convention in Havana on May 10. The association will convene at St John's Lutheran Church near Bishop next year. Mrs Adolph Budke of Havana was elected President and Mrs John Glick of Mason City elected Secretary. Retiring officers are Mrs Walter Hindahl and Mrs Edward Hirst.
